LOS ANGELES, HERE I COME!

The day has finally come! After a few months of preparation, tomorrow I will be flying to Los Angeles to start a new stage in my life as an Intern at HMC Architects.

First of all, my name is María, and I have recently graduated with a Master’s degree in architecture from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid. After finishing my college education and since it was the perfect time to travel and explore, I started to think about the idea of moving to another country and starting my professional career there. After doing one year abroad in Chicago during College I decided the US was the perfect place to move.

I Known Architect-US through one of my professors, and I am glad I found them as they have been an incredible help throughout the process. Since I uploaded my portfolio, they helped me with the interviews and finding a job. This first part of the process was pretty easy. Within a month, I got two interviews and job offers with amazing studios.

I especially want to thank Patricia and Sonia for guiding me and advising me with all my doubts about job offers and, after that, with the visa documents. This second part of the process was more complicated and stressful because after you signed the offer letter with the company, you need to fill in a lot of paperwork and wait for your documents to arrive from the US in order to get your visa appointment. I can say that despite being a tedious process and in which you have to be patient, because of all the paperwork, in my case I have been able to have all the documents on time.

I received my visa last week, and now that I have it, I am ready to enjoy this new adventure! I’m really excited to learn from the HMC team, meet new people, and explore a new city full of possibilities!
