Apartment Search!

Hello there! May has already gone through and here I am again.
In my last post, I gave you some recommendations for people planning on moving to New York City. I talked about some of the paperwork that you need to do to rent a place. What about in this monthly post, I talk about some of the web pages where you can find your future home?

You have two options: the first possibility is to move to a temporary apartment (Airbnb/ hotel) for the first couple of weeks while you look for an apartment. That way you can visit the places in person. The second option is to look for an apartment before arriving in the City.
I would recommend the first option if you don’t have any friends that can see the apartments for you. You can also do the tour virtually, in that case, you can’t experience the neighborhood, building, odors, or even meet some neighbors.

Where to start? There are a lot of pages or companies to look for apartments. The most popular rental sites to find your perfect option are: Streeteasy, Trulia, Zillow, Naked Apartments, RentHop, ApartmentList, and Hotpads. If you want to share an apartment, I recommend June homes, Roomi, or Facebook groups such as Gypsy housing Public Group.

Once you find some suitable options you like, you should schedule a visit and have all the paperwork I talked about in my previous post ready so you can sign as soon as possible. There is currently a high demand for apartments and they get rented in a blink of an eye.

Finally, another piece of advice I can give you is to alway negotiate. It is super common to negotiate. Ask for some advantages, such as a free month if you stay for more than a year.

I hope you find these recommendations helpful in the future!

Stay safe!
