A trip to Newport, a combination of Beach and Culture
If you want to escape from New York during the Summer, Newport will be a great choice!
It´s a 4-hour drive from New York but time passes fast because you can enjoy the beautiful green landscape.
The small city of Newport is known as a New England summer resort and is famous for its historic mansions and its rich sailing history. The city center of Newport is full of activity! Walking along the marina, you can find small stores with local products and plenty of restaurants and bars inspired by nautical themes. The seafood is fantastic, and you should try the Lobster roll, it´s delicious!
If you feel just like enjoying the sun and relax during your Trip to Newport, you have a long coast where you can find small beaches with excellent views and a nice vibe. The most famous one is Easton’s Beach, also known as First Beach, on 175 Memorial Blvd. This long beach starts at the entrance to Cliff Walk, sweeping below the gaze of the elegant Chandler at Cliff Walk. This walk combines the natural beauty of the Newport shoreline with the architectural history of Newport’s gilded age. Wildflowers, birds, geology … all add to this delightful walk where you can enjoy the majesty of the big mansions that alight over the sea.
Some of these mansions are opened to the public and you can visit them. I´ve decided to visit the Breakers!
The Breakers is the grandest of Newport’s summer «cottages» and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. Visiting this mansion was like traveling in time and felt that I was in the scenes of Downtown Abbey.
I was completely amazed by its architecture and its proportions, each room and each object tells you a story, tells you a bit of the United States heritage!
