Before joining Architect-US, I had already been applying to architecture firms in the U.S. on my own, but I didn’t really understand how the U.S. job market worked. I wasn’t sure which positions I should be applying for, whether my professional experience in Peru would be considered relevant, or which parts of my academic and professional background I should highlight.
One of the biggest benefits of the program was having guidance throughout the process and, especially, having the opportunity to go through multiple interviews. This helped me better understand what firms are looking for and how to present my experience and skills in a way that is relevant to the U.S. market. It also pushed me to be more proactive and gave me a clearer direction and goal throughout my job search.
I really appreciated that Architect-US gave me a structure and a sense of direction that I was missing when applying on my own. The process also helped me gain confidence in my professional background and understand that my experience outside the U.S. can be valuable when presented in the right way.
One aspect that could be improved would be providing even more guidance at the beginning of the process regarding which types of positions are the best fit for each participant’s background and how to approach different firms. Having that clarity from the start could make the process feel less uncertain.
Overall, I’m very grateful for the experience. I would especially recommend the program to architects who are interested in working in the U.S. but are not yet familiar with the market or unsure about how to position themselves.
