Time has passed, and I have to say, I’m really happy with the decision I made to join my current team and the connections that being an architect fosters. You might be wondering why I’m so happy. Well, I’m learning so much from my team, especially from the principal and the project manager I’m working with.
Architecture is known for being fast-paced, and I’m definitely feeling it! But so far, the coordination, teamwork, and meeting project deadlines have been an exciting challenge. For those of you who haven’t read my previous posts, I’m working at RdlR Architects. The range and scope of projects here are incredible.
Right now, I’m involved in a governmental project—specifically, a urna park. A few days ago, we had the groundbreaking ceremony. It was amazing to see all the people involved and hear from the community about what this park means to them. Houston, and especially the neighborhood we’re working in, is one of the hottest areas, so this park carries a lot of meaning. Knowing that our work directly impacts people’s lives keeps me motivated in this profession.
Architecture is about more than just creating designs—it’s about turning concepts into something real and meaningful. Honestly, I never thought I’d be working on a governmental project in the U.S., but I’m so glad I am. Collaborating with my team to shape the vision for this park has been an amazing experience. Being able to share my opinions and contribute to the project has been incredibly rewarding.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s the value of working for a firm with a wide variety of projects. It not only keeps the work exciting but also provides endless opportunities to learn and grow. Right now, I’m facing a technical challenge in this project, which is pushing me to step outside my comfort zone and expand my skills.
You’ll never have all the answers, but what matters is your willingness to learn and keep improving. If you’re looking to grow as an architect, I highly recommend finding a company that challenges you and gives you opportunities to work on diverse projects.
