Memorial Day Weekend in the Hamptons

Memorial Day weekend presented a unique opportunity for us to escape to the Hamptons, spending five days with friends in a beautiful home surrounded by the calming landscape of this idyllic region.

This experience stands out as one of the top highlights of my time in New York. Surrounded by a wonderful group of friends, our weekend was filled with laughter, sunshine, beach outings, amazing dinners, and endless fun.

On Thursday evening, we packed our bags and headed to our meeting point, feeling like true New Yorkers inaugurating the Hamptons season. The 2.5-hour drive to East Quogue was marked by a picturesque sunset and a mandatory pit stop at a pizza place.

We woke up on Friday morning to the sound of birds and sunlight filtering through large green trees, right by the bay. While some of us handled groceries and lunch, the rest enjoyed working remotely from this peaceful retreat. It was hard to believe that just two hours from the bustling streets of New York, we found such serenity.

After work, a refreshing swim in the pool set the tone for the evening. We took our Jeep to Dockers, a recommended spot for watching the sunset and enjoying drinks. Though tempted by the restaurant, we opted to return home for a barbecue on the terrace.

Saturday began with a morning run through the charming area, with its typical American homes, flags, and manicured gardens. Breakfast by the pool was followed by tanning and swimming before heading to the beach for the morning. The afternoon was spent playing games back home.

That evening, we returned to Dockers before enjoying a homemade Spanish tortilla de patata, bringing a taste of home to our getaway. A friend played the Spanish guitar, and we ended the night with dancing and drinks.

Sunday’s adventure took us to Sag Harbor for a lovely lunch and a drive through the prestigious South Hampton area, admiring its grand properties. We took a nap at Cryders Beach before returning for our final dinner, a special celebration of a friend’s birthday and mine. The white dinner party featured a spectacular steak with Roquefort sauce, prepared by our talented friends, and another night of singing and dancing.

This unique experience is a cherished memory from my New York adventure, and I look forward to many more like it in the future.
