Neue Galerie<\/a> New York it\u2019s a museum that features early twenty century German and Austrian art<\/strong> and design.<\/h2>\n

It is located in a landmark mansion from 1914 by the architectural firm Carrere & Hastings, just across the street from Central Park, on the Upper East Side.<\/p>\n

The Gallery features the work of artists like Beckmann, Klee, Breuer, Kokoschka, Moser and Loos. But probably the most famous painting in the exhibition is the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer<\/strong> by Gustav Klimt (that perhaps many of you know from the movie “Lady in Gold”). This painting was stolen by the Nazi in 1938 and exposed in the Belvedere in Vienna, until in 2006. After a very famous trial, it was given back to the living family of Adele Bloch-Bauer, that decided to sell the painting to be exposed in this gallery.<\/p>\n

Although, this is not the only Klimt painting featured in the Galerie, there are several paintings and drawings of his authorship exposed. So, if you are a Klimt fan<\/strong> (like me) this gallery<\/a> is a must in NYC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It also features some temporary exhibits. The current exhibition for this spring is “Before the Fall”<\/strong> which is devoted to the development of the arts in Germany and Austria during the 1930s.\u00a0 Central topics of the exhibition are the reaction of artists toward their historical circumstances, the development of style with regard to the appropriation of various artistic idioms, the personal fate of artists and major political events that shaped the era. Also, in June there is an upcoming exhibition \u201cGustav Klimt and Egon Schiele: 1918 Centenary\u201d<\/strong>. This show pays tribute to the groundbreaking achievements of this two artists who are already key figures in the collection of the Galerie.\u00a0 So, you\u2019ll definitely see me around the gallery again this summer.<\/p>\n

Last but not least, you should visit the Caf\u00e9s, inspired by the great Viennese caf\u00e9s; not only in their exquisite cuisine but in the decor as well. The light fixtures, furniture and fabrics are designed by Josef Hoffmann, Adolf Loos, and Otto Wagner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
