Sorry! I attended at the last hours of the last day wondering why I didn&#8217;t go before.<\/h4>\n<p>Dark and scary, the tunnel that leads to the exhibit <strong>is like the path that Hansel and Gretel experienced<\/strong> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brothers_Grimm\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>Brother Grimms<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&#8216;s fairly tale. for a moment, it is as if you are blind. Your eyes begin to adjust to the\u00a0contrast of light and\u00a0dark.\u00a0<strong>Suddenly, a\u00a0deep voice tells\u00a0you what to do next.<\/strong> I screamed, of course,\u00a0overwhelmed\u00a0by a mixture of nervousness and\u00a0excitement. Finally, my\u00a0eyes begin\u00a0to\u00a0differentiate all the variations of\u00a0colors and forms. A huge space, not as dark as the tunnel but still ominous,\u00a0is large enough that people\u00a0can walk freely.\u00a0As we moved through the dimly\u00a0lit\u00a0<strong>Wade Thompson Drill Hall<\/strong>,\u00a0we, like all visitors, were being\u00a0tracked by infrared cameras and surveyed by overhead drones as they systematically\u00a0captured the visitor&#8217;s\u00a0data and movements. This forest of projected lights fill the sprawling space\u00a0as\u00a0the visitors interact with their images under the light.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The experience\u00a0was\u00a0really fun,\u00a0although I will\u00a0confess I\u00a0mostly sat on the floor trying to figure out the best\u00a0positions\u00a0to\u00a0create\u00a0a mosaic of\u00a0my superimposed image.<\/strong> The space allows you to experiment and realize the temporality of your\u00a0own\u00a0path.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5830\" src=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-300x133.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-768x341.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-740x329.jpg 740w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0hadn&#8217;t\u00a0read\u00a0anything\u00a0about the exhibit, so my mind at this moment was\u00a0racing with\u00a0thousands of questions.\u00a0<strong>What is it that\u00a0Herzog, De Meuron and\u00a0Ai\u00a0Wei Wei wanted\u00a0to explain,\u00a0<\/strong>what about\u00a0the relationship between the\u00a0experience\u00a0and\u00a0the exhibit&#8217;s\u00a0name?\u00a0My first\u00a0thought\u00a0was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/George_Orwell\"><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\"><strong>George Orwell<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0<strong>Big Brother<\/strong> of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nineteen_Eighty-Four\"><strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">1984<\/span><\/strong><\/a> novel, where an omniscient state surveils its citizens with millions of cameras\u00a0were used to\u00a0instill fear in all.<\/p>\n<p>Then <strong>I realized how\u00a0we are actively, mostly unknowingly, sharing every\u00a0part of our private\u00a0lives\u00a0through\u00a0the\u00a0internet<\/strong>. It\u00a0is an infinite storage\u00a0where a lot of people with good\u00a0or\u00a0bad\u00a0intentions,\u00a0can find enough information to take advantage of you. It&#8217;s not a secret\u00a0that\u00a0there is an\u00a0industry that\u00a0grew from the presence of\u00a0social networks, that\u00a0through a never-ending data base,\u00a0is able to buy and sell your preferences and characteristics.\u00a0<strong>We have so heavily embedded our\u00a0daily lives within the\u00a0internet for\u00a0at least 10 years\u00a0now.<\/strong> TEN years!!! That is a\u00a0whole\u00a0life&#8217;s\u00a0worth\u00a0of memories,\u00a0personal identity, family, friends, where you went, with whom you talked\u00a0with,\u00a0and what\u00a0music\u00a0you\u00a0listened\u00a0to.\u00a0This\u00a0makes me realize how unprotected we are every time we share an image, comment\u00a0on\u00a0photos\u00a0or\u00a0even\u00a0write an article!\u00a0This path,\u00a0is\u00a0as easy to generate as\u00a0your\u00a0projected image\u00a0on\u00a0the floor.\u00a0Memories\u00a0will\u00a0remain\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0inter-webs\u00a0for a decades,\u00a0but as we age,\u00a0our mind\u00a0will\u00a0slowly fade away,\u00a0just\u00a0as the images dissolved into\u00a0the\u00a0ground.<\/p>\n<p>This path\u00a0is\u00a0just lik<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5833 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-3-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-3-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-3-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/2017_HanselGretel-3-740x987.jpg 740w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/>e the\u00a0breadcrumbs\u00a0in\u00a0Hansel and Gretel&#8217;s\u00a0story- <strong>a floor plan for the architect,\u00a0however, it\u00a0is not eaten by birds but\u00a0is\u00a0instead\u00a0stored\u00a0in\u00a0this system\u00a0without\u00a0the knowledge of the citizens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0the hallways of the historic <strong>Head House<\/strong>, where the second part of the exhibit is\u00a0located, the visitor discovers\u00a0a different\u00a0series of\u00a0installations\u00a0that begin to explain\u00a0the extent of what has been seen and captured.<\/p>\n<p>At first,\u00a0the exhibit could\u00a0just\u00a0be taken as a wonderful playful experience but\u00a0upon thoughtful reflection,\u00a0<strong>I hope that the exhibit will provoke a menacing doubt of the media managing<\/strong> and a deep impact in their way to interact with it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hansel and Gretel well-known fairy tale recorded by the Brothers Grimm becomes the perfect excuse to Jacques Herzog and Pierre Meuron Pritzker Prize-winning Swiss architects and the Chineses artist\/activist Ai Weiwei to reconnect in this interesting performance what combine their interest in the psychological impact of architecture and the politics of public spaces at the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":55,"featured_media":5840,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[707],"tags":[1468,45,433,1467,169,1466,873,1469],"class_list":["post-5455","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-culture","tag-ai-wei-wei","tag-architect","tag-architecture","tag-de-meuron","tag-exhibition","tag-herzog","tag-herzog-and-de-meuron","tag-park-avenue-armory"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Hansel &amp;
