Safdie Architects has unveiled the design for the new Cherokee Heritage Center in Oklahoma, conceived as a complex of interconnected pavilions that will form a cultural campus for the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah. The proposal blends into the natural surroundings through volumes that evoke layers of earthy materials, rising among the trees and interacting with the landscape.<\/p>\n
The centerpiece will be the Great Hall, a structure that acts as a beacon among the trees and is topped with a geometric metal roof inspired by the Cherokee seven-pointed star. Among its elements, glass panels allow natural light to enter, creating spacious interior spaces with an almost cavernous character.<\/p>\n
