Desai Chia Architecture designed this home on Shelter Island using cypress wood charred with the Shou Sugi ban technique, allowing the house to blend into the landscape and attract wildlife. Located in a grove next to the Mashomack Reserve and overlooking Gardiners Bay, the house is reached by a small dirt road that reinforces its discreet and protected character.<\/p>\n
Conceived as a family home for a local builder, the Osprey House is inspired by the birds that give the project its name and the nautical forms of the area. The volume projects toward the water like the bow of a ship, and its angular decks were designed after a precise study of sunlight, combining lighting efficiency and a strong visual connection to the coastal environment.<\/p>\n
