The Turett Collaborative (TTC)<\/strong> is a multidisciplinary architecture and interior design firm<\/strong> based in New York City<\/strong>, founded by Wayne Turett.<\/span> The firm’s origins trace back to 1984, when Turett began his architectural career, notably designing and operating a modern, award-winning newsstand on Columbus Avenue and 81st Street in 1988<\/span>. The firm was officially established in 1991<\/span>. The firm’s current leadership team includes founder Wayne Turett, partners Simeon Seigel, James Saisakorn, and Alex Nizhikhovskiy, along with Director of Interior Design Jessica Shaw<\/span>.\u200b<\/p>\n

Giovanna G\u00f3mez Salias<\/h4>\n

Giovanna is a Mexican architect who graduated from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM)<\/strong> and was granted Honorable Mention in Professional Exam with Thesis Title: \u201cRecyclable architecture as a collective space<\/strong>\u201d. Before joining TTC, she had extensive work experience, including working as a Senior Project Architect at ARQUETIPO. ARQUITECTURA PR\u00c1CTICA<\/strong> and MURANO DESARROLLADORA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Greenport Passive House<\/h4>\n

Wayne constructed his carbon-neutral Passive House to demonstrate that sustainable building and exceptional design can go hand in hand. He utilized eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient appliances, and carefully planned fenestration and insulation to achieve both functionality and sustainability.<\/p>\n

NYU Kevorkian Library<\/h4>\n

As part of the renovation of this university library specializing in Middle Eastern Studies, TTC designed new furniture, shelving, lighting, and a reception desk to enhance functionality and aesthetics.<\/p>\n

Located on the first floor of New York University\u2019s Middle Eastern Studies Building, just south of Washington Square Park, the library faced challenges despite the modern architecture. The entrance lacked a ceremonial transition, failing to separate the bustling exterior from the peaceful interior.<\/p>\n

TTC addressed this by incorporating a tall glass wall that formed a vestibule, improved climate control, and provided acoustic separation for library users. This feature also enhanced security while maintaining an open and airy ambiance, avoiding any sense of confinement.<\/p>\n

To optimize accessibility, TTC designed furniture for the two mezzanines along with custom shelving, lighting fixtures, and a new reception desk. The library\u2019s centerpiece was its book stacks, which were suspended by steel rods above a communal table. This sleek, contemporary structure contrasted elegantly with the intricate Islamic architectural details that define the library\u2019s interior.<\/p>\n
