My name is Claudia, and I recently graduated with a degree in architecture from ETSAM<\/strong> in Madrid<\/strong>. I’ve always dreamed of experiencing what some might call the American dream<\/strong>. Since I was 13, I\u2019ve spent my summers in different states, staying with host families in the hopes of learning more about the country and one day achieving my dream. However, no matter how much you know about the U.S., it’s always a welcoming place with friendly people.<\/p>\n

I’m currently enrolled in my Master’s program<\/strong>, but as an architect, I believe it\u2019s essential to grow professionally both inside and outside the classroom to truly understand what you want to do and how you want to do it. That\u2019s why I felt it was important to embark on this new adventure before starting my Master\u2019s. Initially, I planned to do a summer internship<\/strong> with Architect-US, but as I learned more about the process, we found opportunities that suited me better and aligned with my goals. What started as a 3-month internship has now extended to 12 months, and honestly, I couldn\u2019t be happier.<\/p>\n

I first heard about Architect-US through my school three years ago, and since then, I’ve received emails reminding me that they were still there if I wanted to pursue this opportunity. It was thoughtful of them to keep me informed. I\u2019ve also had their flyer on my wall for a long time, so they definitely made a good impression when they visited my school. They\u2019ve helped me with my portfolio<\/strong> and CV, something I deeply appreciate since I\u2019ll be using these materials many times in the future.<\/p>\n

At first, I was uncertain about the process, but the Architect-US<\/strong> team has always been incredibly patient and helpful. They are excellent listeners, and even when things take time, they keep you updated throughout. My visa process took longer than we initially anticipated, but we eventually figured it out, and now I\u2019m free and ready to go. Getting the visa<\/strong> was a straightforward process; filling out the documents was more challenging than the actual interview. The people at the embassy were super sweet and nice, and they usually just ask basic questions to confirm that you\u2019ll return to your country after the internship. Don\u00b4t be nervous as it is an easy but important process.<\/p>\n

I received an offer from WORKac<\/strong> in New York City. Although New York wasn\u2019t my first choice, I\u2019m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to go there. Now that I\u2019ve gotten to know the city, I\u2019ve truly fallen in love with it. Finding an apartment wasn\u2019t easy, but I promise you\u2019ll eventually find the right place. I also visited the WORKac office; they seem like such great people, and I\u2019m really excited to work with them soon.<\/p>\n

I hope this experience not only helps me grow as an architect<\/strong> but also as a person. I still have a lot to learn, and I can\u2019t wait for all the adventures and lessons that lie ahead.<\/p>\n
