Jorge Mastropietro Architects Atelier (JMA)<\/strong> has a rich history that began in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where Jorge Mastropietro founded Mastropietro & Partners<\/strong> in 1992, focusing on residential projects. The firm expanded in 1995 by adding a Structural Engineer division led by Marcelo Mastropietro. In 2002, Jorge moved to New York and joined Rafael Vi\u00f1oly Architects<\/strong>, contributing to significant projects like the Cleveland Museum of Art<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2007<\/strong>, he established JMA<\/strong> in New York City, where the firm has since engaged in diverse architectural endeavors, including environmental architecture, urban design, landscaping, interior design, and structural engineering consultation.<\/p>\n

Clara Mastropietro<\/h4>\n

Originally from Argentina, Clara Mastropietro graduated with a degree in architecture from the National University of La Plata’s School of Architecture and Urbanism<\/strong>. She earned several awards in national and international architectural competitions during her studies, covering a variety of topics like sustainable design, historic building preservation, and architecture for underprivileged populations. Before joining JMA in 2017, she had a couple jobs at architectural firms in Argentina. Clara is now the Senior Project Manager at JMA.<\/p>\n

Jorge Mastropietro Architects’ <\/span><\/span>Selected Projects<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

405 RT 440 – Jersey City, NJ, USA<\/h4>\n

Situated in the Jersey City Bayfront Redevelopment zone and adjacent to Highway Route 440, this project has the potential to serve as the focal point of a well-planned neighborhood.
\nThe idea behind the design is to create a more dynamic and flexible fa\u00e7ade along the back, opening up toward the new modern life, while the rigid facade along the highway represents the grid of urban life in any established metropolis, like Jersey metropolis.<\/p>\n

Setback, building proportions, and the way the structure meets the street are examples of small but significant design choices that are thoughtfully incorporated into the overall scheme. This makes it possible for the building to blend in with its surroundings.<\/p>\n

The urban heat island is an important element to take into consideration, especially with the urban population continuing to rise and land being taken away for construction. In order to provide the\u00a0renters with a nice outdoor space and gradually lessen the heat island effect, JMA\u00a0has\u00a0included roof gardens and an indoor green courtyard above the garages.<\/p>\n

Tenants will feel more a part of the community thanks to the building’s communal park, roof deck, and spacious courtyard. The 4,200 square foot interior courtyard on the fourth story, which acts as “a visual and physical connector” between the surrounding apartments and common facilities, is the focal point of the building.<\/p>\n

XS House – Buenos Aires, Argentina<\/h4>\n

JMA’s\u00a0pursuit of excellent design combined with a strong environmental commitment is embodied in this project. Three fundamental ideas are simplicity, high-quality construction, and attractiveness.<\/p>\n

The firm\u00a0believes\u00a0that a house’s architecture is simply one aspect of its beauty\u2014the materials chosen also play a significant role.<\/p>\n

This house is located on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, where interaction with the outside world acts as a catalyst. The outside is what connects us to nature and society. The interior plays with light and shadows, with walls that range from transparent to solid.<\/p>\n

Korean Bubble Library – Daegu, South Korea<\/h4>\n

Thought Bubbles serve as the basis for the design idea. A sequence of thought bubbles that suddenly form on one side of the mind and vanish on the other is knowledge.<\/p>\n

This public building creates the places needed to spread the bubble of common knowledge while enclosing the resources from the past, present, and future.
\nJMA’s proposal is made as a conversation between the past and the future. These days, there are other places you can go to acquire knowledge than libraries. Information is now accessible in every home, on every computer, tablet, and phone thanks to technological advancements. This library area will serve as a shrine for the contemplation of all knowledge in addition to serving as a community gathering place.<\/p>\n
