As I sit here, surrounded by boxes packed with my belongings, I can’t help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Tomorrow, I’ll embark on a new chapter of my life as an architecture intern in the vibrant city of Chicago. The decision to move here wasn’t an easy one, but I’m eager to immerse myself in everything this dynamic city has to offer, both personally and professionally.

Chicago is renowned for its stunning architecture, with its skyline adorned by iconic skyscrapers designed by legendary architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and Mies van der Rohe. As an architecture enthusiast, the opportunity to live and work in a city that’s a living testament to the evolution of architectural styles is incredibly inspiring.

Beyond its architectural marvels, Chicago boasts a rich cultural tapestry that’s woven from diverse communities, each contributing to the city’s unique identity. From the vibrant street art of Pilsen to the upscale boutiques of the Magnificent Mile, there’s always something new to explore and discover.

Of course, no discussion about Chicago would be complete without mentioning its legendary food scene. Whether it’s indulging in deep-dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s, savoring a Chicago-style hot dog at Portillo’s, or sampling gourmet cuisine at one of the city’s many Michelin-starred restaurants, my taste buds are eagerly anticipating the culinary adventures that lie ahead.

As I prepare to dive headfirst into my internship, I’m filled with a sense of anticipation and curiosity. I can’t wait to collaborate with talented architects, learn from experienced mentors, and contribute to projects that will shape the city’s skyline for years to come.

But amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life, I’m also looking forward to finding moments of tranquility along the shores of Lake Michigan or in one of Chicago’s many lush green spaces, where I can reflect on my experiences and draw inspiration from the world around me.

Yes, moving to a new city can be daunting, but it’s also an opportunity for growth, exploration, and self-discovery. And as I take my first steps into this exciting new chapter, I know that the city of Chicago will be there to welcome me with open arms, ready to challenge, inspire, and embrace me every step of the way.
