History<\/strong> of AMLGM<\/span><\/h4>\n

AMLGM<\/span> <\/a><\/strong>is a San Francisco, California-based architecture and design studio developing the physical space to make it more inclusive, dynamic, elegant, and efficient. The award-winning studio was established in 2014 by its principals, Matthew Bowles, AIA, LEED, AP<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, and M. Chad Kellogg, AIA<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

It is a small company made up of 5 architects including the co-founders: Chad Kellogg<\/span><\/a>, Matthew Bowles<\/span><\/a>, Luna Yue Zuo<\/span><\/a> who is a Junior Architect, Ling Sha<\/span> an Architectural Designer, and Joe Schollmeyer<\/span> who is an Architect. AMLGM<\/span> is renowned for creating distinctive designs for a range of structures. Their inventiveness, creativity, and proficiency in managing every aspect of the construction process are infused into every project.<\/p>\n

Across scales of architecture, product design, art, and urban planning, AMLGM<\/span> applies the philosophy and techniques of architectural design thought. Their areas of expertise include residential, commercial, institutional, and architectural design. M. Chad Kellogg, Co-Founder of AMLGM<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Martin Chadwick Kellogg,<\/span> AIA<\/span>, is an award-winning architect with architecture licenses in California and Oregon. Chad graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Berkeley<\/span><\/strong> and a Master’s Degree from the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation<\/span> at Columbia University<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

With over fifteen years of experience, he has worked on both public and private projects, including art museums, luxury homes, and schools in developing countries.<\/p>\n

Matthew Bowles, Co-Founder of AMLGM<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

Following graduation from the College of Environmental Design<\/span> at U.C. Berkeley<\/span><\/strong>, Matthew Bowles, AIA<\/span>, holds a license to practice architecture. His work has appeared in numerous respectable magazines and newspapers, such as Metropolis Magazine<\/span>, The Atlantic<\/span>, and the New York Post<\/span>. Matthew’s interest in design began at a young age in an industrial design studio, where he was taught craftmanship and how to solve difficult problems with sketches and models. This early exposure to design propelled his career spanning over ten years, including formative work in the cultural, commercial, and residential vanguard.<\/p>\n

Candelaria Gassiebayle<\/span><\/h4>\n

Candelaria Gassiebayle, an Argentinian architect, participated in the Architect-US Pool of Candidates<\/span><\/strong>, the J1 Visa Program<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, and the Architect-US Portfolio Report Plan<\/span><\/strong><\/a>! Her AMLGM trainee program ran from February 7, 2022, to February 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

She earned her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Argentina’s Facultad de Arquitectura, Dise\u00f1o\u00a0y Urbanismo (F.A.D.U)<\/span><\/strong>. Candelaria entered the “Costa Salguero” government competition in Buenos Aires in 2020, where she gave a presentation of her project’s schematic design. During her time at University she also participated in a workshop at the University of Architecture and Urbanism in Rio de Janeiro<\/span><\/strong> in Brasil called “Entre rios y aires” or “Between rivers and airs”.<\/p>\n

Considering her young age, Candelaria has a wide range of professional experience. Besides her time at AMLGM<\/span>, she was a Junior Architect at Santiago Santillan and Associates<\/span><\/strong> in Argentina where she worked on urban houses, commercial headquarters, and apartment remodel and interior design. There she was part of the schematic design and responsible for the construction documents.<\/p>\n

\u00c1lvaro Lucas Guill\u00e9n Bastante<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00c1lvaro Guill\u00e9n, a Spanish architect, participated in the J1 Visa Program<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and was a member of the Architect-US Pool of Candidates<\/span><\/strong>! His AMLGM trainee program ran from September 25, 2018, to March 25, 2020.<\/p>\n

\u00c1lvaro earned a Master in Creativity and Architectural Expression<\/span> after being a Graduate of Architecture from Universidad Francisco de Vitoria<\/span><\/strong> in Madrid, Spain. He received a mark of 9\/10 on his Final Degree Project, which was the 2nd highest rate of the convening. While he was a student, he participated in workshops and competitions such as \u201cYour Route Passes Through Madrid\u201d<\/span>. An exhibition pavilion project part of the competition organized by the Madrid Regional Government in collaboration with Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. \u00c1lvaro won the 1st Prize among the 1st year students and\u00a04th Prize among all university students.<\/p>\n

His professional experience includes an internship at Quanto Arquitectura<\/span><\/strong> where he took part in the 500 Movistar stores<\/span> project that focused on refurbishment in collaboration with Moneo Brock Studio<\/span>. In 2017 he was a Junior Architect at Ruiz Barbarin Arquitectos<\/span><\/strong> an participated in a number of projects including the Hotel in Gran V\u00eda St. Madrid<\/span> where he was responsible for the Execution Project, Hotel in Infantas St. Madrid<\/span> where his responsibility was the Basic Project, and the Hotel-Theatre in Madrid<\/span> for which he was a collaborator on the Basic Project and the Execution Project.<\/p>\n

AMLGM<\/span><\/span>‘s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Selected Projects<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Biomass Boiler Building – Sierra Nevada, Quincy, California<\/span><\/h4>\n

The Biomass Boiler Shed houses a wood-fired heating system that heats a nearby public health building. The shed uses Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), an innovative wood building material, to pay homage to its surrounding forest. Rather than relying on a steel frame for structural support, the shed’s walls and roof are made of cross laminated timber, which supports the structure in bearing, shear, and overturn. CLT, which is essentially plywood sheets on steroids, offers a straightforward, environmentally friendly, and aesthetically beautiful building structure. Its simplicity of installation and environmentally beneficial effects from carbon sequestration make it the ideal match for the wood-burning heating system it contains.<\/p>\n

The biomass boiler itself obtains wood fuel from byproducts of the nearby forestry trade. Instead of allowing wood chip byproducts to decompose and emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, they are used as fuel to generate heat for a sophisticated mechanism that powers the public health building next door. The exhaust from the biomass boiler is filtered and 100% clean air is released back into the atmosphere.<\/p>\n

137 Franklin Street – TriBeCa, New York<\/span><\/h4>\n

This brand-new, six-story residential structure is situated in the center of the Tribeca landmark district on a 25-by-95-foot plot. The building, which is 15,000 square feet in size, is split into three large, light-filled apartments, each taking up two floors. Along with a mezzanine and a double-height top floor, the penthouse boasts a private roof deck. The building’s mechanical systems and circulation core were meticulously designed like a Swiss watch to optimize the amount of usable space. Every living space has views and natural light thanks to the interior layouts that are in harmony with the facade. The designs are modern, minimalist, and clean, with lots of living space and little to no circulation.<\/p>\n

Industrial Redevelopment Cafe – Houston, Texas<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n

AMLGM collaborated with the developer to create a low-cost icon to mark the entrance to a large redevelopment of a former industrial area. In addition to housing a cafe and retail space, the new building serves as the development’s official wayfinding tool. The interior is roomy and bright thanks to the large clerestory windows, double height area, and mezzanine overlook. The cafe is made of board formed concrete and standing seam metal to reflect the character of the surrounding historic context.<\/p>\n
