We have collected the 2020<\/strong> 200 Most Followed<\/strong> US Architects\/Firms on Instagram<\/strong>, for you to be able to sort through all of the different inspiration and ideas they present. Out of these\u00a0200<\/strong>\u00a0firms, Architect-US<\/strong> works with 69<\/strong> of these firms, bringing us up to over 35%<\/strong> Host Company Partners<\/strong>! We wanted to support their work and strengthen the bonds we have with our partner companies by sharing some of their work.<\/p>\n

We also wanted to mention some of the memorable architects that have contributed towards the common work of the industry. Helping to design the world we live in!\u00a0To commend and highlight the\ud83d\udd1d notch work of Architect-US<\/strong> Partner Companies<\/strong> and our Participants<\/strong>, we have also profiled some of those wonderful firms. There are firms large, medium, and small all included, and we go in to detail about the projects and experiences that firms shared with participants. It is always helpful to review how others were able to get into the position they are currently in, and how the\u00a0J1 visa<\/strong> can assist you in your career dreams.<\/p>\n

A standard within the industry, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM)<\/strong><\/a>, consists of\u00a0architects, designers, engineers and planners and their global team\u00a0is responsible for some of the world\u2019s most technically and environmentally advanced buildings and significant public spaces. They describe their approach as<\/p>\n

“…highly collaborative, and their interdisciplinary team is international…Working from a network of creative studios across the globe, they are able to apply international expertise at a local level.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We have been very grateful for the two different opportunities that were given to our participants. Both\u00a0Esteban Becerril Pellon<\/strong><\/a> and\u00a0<\/strong>Eftalia Proios Torras<\/strong><\/a> have tooted their experience at such an acclaimed firm, as a huge boost to their career prospects, and of course, their technical expertise.\u00a0Eftalia\u00a0<\/strong>is now in\u00a0Barcelona<\/strong> working with\u00a0SOM<\/strong> as an Architectural Designer, and\u00a0Esteban<\/strong> used his time in Washington DC<\/strong> with SOM<\/strong> to become a Principal in Spain. Esteban<\/strong>\u00a0was also able to stay in the USA working for longer due to his persistence to obtain the\u00a0O1 Visa\u00a0<\/strong>aka “The Extraordinary Artist” Visa.<\/p>\n

OMA NY<\/a><\/h4>\n

The Office for Metropolitan Architecture<\/b> (OMA<\/b>)<\/a>, an iconic Dutch firm\u00a0based in\u00a0Rotterdam<\/strong>, was founded in 1975 by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and Greek architect Elia Zenghelis<\/strong><\/a>. They have provided Architects and Designers all over the world with inspiration to think differently and truly think outside the box.<\/p>\n

Andres Rabano Luzano<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been working with OMA<\/strong> for over 3 years now, and started with a J1 Visa opportunity. Andres<\/strong> was able to obtain the O1 Visa<\/strong> after finishing his J1 Visa<\/strong> experience with\u00a0OMA.<\/strong>\u00a0While the other participant that has been able to work with\u00a0OMA,\u00a0<\/strong>Gonzalo Samaniego Gonzalez<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>has been working in New York City<\/strong> for just under a year as a Trainee.\u00a0<\/strong>Both have loved their experience working for such a top notch firm.<\/p>\n

OMA<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is also one of the two American firms that will be participating in the first\u00a0Arquia Foundation (Fundaci\u00f3n Arquia<\/strong><\/a>) scholarship, in partnership with Architect-US<\/strong><\/a>, to be awarded for students to work in the USA.\u00a0Luis Somoza<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was chosen the winner for the Arquia Foundation Scholarship<\/strong><\/a>, which is the first time that an American architecture firm accepts a Foundation Scholarship winner. After finishing his degree in Building Engineering,\u00a0Luis Somoza<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>went on to work\u00a0on\u00a0his Master Degree at\u00a0the Polytechnic School of Architecture of Madrid<\/a>, <\/strong>and he graduated in June 2019.\u00a0Now he is looking forward to working in New York City with such an acclaimed firm.<\/p>\n

Karim Rashid<\/a><\/h4>\n

Karim Rashid<\/a><\/strong>, is a Design Firm lead by the iconic Karim Rashid, <\/strong>who\u00a0has over 4000 designs<\/strong> in production, over 300 awards<\/strong> and working in over 40 countries<\/strong> attest to Karim\u2019s legend of design.\u00a0Karim<\/strong> has worked for countless high caliber brands ranging from\u00a0Veuve Clicquot to\u00a03M to\u00a0Asus and Samsung to\u00a0brand identity for Citibank and Sony Ericsson. By working at this firm, all of our participants that had the chance to collaborate with him have attested to his legendary Design.<\/p>\n

Vita\u00a0Giacovelli<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>worked with\u00a0Karim Rashid<\/strong> in Shenzhen, China<\/strong> back in 2016<\/strong> and then got the chance to work as a Spatial Designer at their New York City<\/strong> office.\u00a0Vita<\/strong> was able to travel the world while working with some of the best of the best!\u00a0Alicia\u00a0Palacios Moreno<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is another J1 Visa participant that has been given the opportunity to work with\u00a0Karim\u00a0<\/strong>in the USA, but due to the Pandemic those career plans are currently on hold.<\/p>\n

Morphosis Architects<\/a><\/h4>\n

Morphosis Architects<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0a collaborative architectural practice\u00a0focused on how\u00a0technology, politics, and cultural intersections of architecture, urbanism, and design intersect. The firm was founded in\u00a01972 by Design Director Thom Mayne<\/strong>, and with\u00a0over 100 American Institute of Architects (AIA) awards\u00a0they have proven themselves to be some of the top architects in the world.<\/p>\n

After working at\u00a0Norman Foster’s Foundation<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Andr\u00e9s\u00a0Conejero Conesa<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was able to work at\u00a0Morphosis Architects<\/strong> in Culver City for a year and a half.\u00a0Andres<\/strong> has since then been working as a Designer in Switzerland<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Years ago we set out to prove that intelligent, evocative architecture can be made within real-world constraints.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mar\u00eda\u00a0Moreno Repiso<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0was able to work at\u00a0SHoP Architects<\/strong> for half a year as a Junior Designer, and has since used this opportunity to expand her Architecture endeavors.\u00a0Hagar\u00a0Admi<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>Javier\u00a0Martin de la Fuente<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>both were able to Intern in New York City<\/strong>, and\u00a0Javier<\/strong> was able to stay on since 2018.\u00a0<\/strong>We were able to assist\u00a0Javier\u00a0<\/strong>with his transition from J1 visa<\/strong> to O1 visa<\/strong> with our partners, and he has been working there ever since he started with the J1 visa.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Diller Scofidio + Renfro

Diller Scofidio + Renfro<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>a design studio<\/strong>\u00a0that works within the fields of architecture, urban design, installation art, multi-media performance, digital media, and print.\u00a0DS+R\u2019s <\/strong>work addresses the changing role of institutions and the future of cities.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

DS+R completed two of the largest architecture and planning initiatives in New York City\u2019s recent history: the adaptive reuse of an obsolete, industrial rail infrastructure into the High Line, a 1.5 mile-long public park, and the transformation of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts\u2019.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Esha\u00a0<\/strong>Skinner\u00a0<\/b>was able to work with\u00a0DS+R\u00a0<\/strong>in 2018<\/strong> for half a year to learn about the different techniques and experience the New York City Architecture scene, while just out of University. Now she has taken what she learned and applied it to her current work.<\/p>\n

Thanks to Architect-US<\/strong><\/a> collaboration with The Arquia Foundation (Fundaci\u00f3n Arquia<\/strong><\/a>),\u00a0Diller Scofidio+Renfro<\/strong>\u00a0will also be hosting another top talent from Spain via Scholarship! Felipe Sancho Cervera<\/strong><\/a> was chosen one of the winners for the Arquia Foundation Scholarship<\/strong><\/a>, and will be going over to New York City this year to get started with an incredible firm!\u00a0Felipe Sancho Cervera<\/strong><\/a> graduated from the\u00a0Masters degree in Architecture ETSAB – Barcelona Architecture School<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>about a year ago, and is now getting ready to make the move to the USA!<\/p>\n

TEN Arquitectos<\/a><\/h4>\n

TEN Arquitectos<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0AKA\u00a0<\/strong>Taller de Enrique Norten Arquitectos<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span>was founded in Mexico City<\/strong> by Enrique Norten<\/strong> in 1986, and by 2003 the firm was able to open up their own office in New York City. TEN Arquitectos<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0focuses:<\/span><\/p>\n

“…on a multitude of scales and typologies, including furniture design; single-family houses; residential, cultural and institutional buildings; as well as landscape and master planning.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Both\u00a0Nuria Heras Diez<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Nieves Andrea Calvo Lopez<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>have been able to take their initial J1 Visa experiences and turn them into longer term career\u00a0decisions. Both\u00a0have been able to move up in their offices, and are now references that we point to when recommending\u00a0<\/b>TEN Arquitectos<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>Nuria\u00a0<\/strong>was able to obtain the O1 Visa <\/strong>with the help of TEN Arquitectos<\/strong> and our partner sponsors, and has been working with TEN Arquitectos<\/strong> ever since her J1 Visa.<\/strong><\/p>\n

AECOM<\/a><\/h4>\n

AECOM<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is one of the largest Architecture and Engineering firms in the world.\u00a0They have been behind countless classic projects around the globe.\u00a0When working with AECOM<\/strong>, you are given the\u00a0opportunity to work on projects ranging from\u00a0transportation, buildings, water, governments, energy and the environment.<\/p>\n

Aliz\u00e9e Marie Eugenie\u00a0Auvray<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been able to take what she learned at\u00a0AECOM<\/strong> and apply it to her career work at Interstice Architects<\/strong><\/a> in San Francisco<\/strong>. By gaining a better understanding of what it is like to work at a large firm, she was better able to proactively view her career at a more mid-sized firm. Now she is trying to get her\u00a0O1 Visa<\/strong> to stay for longer and extend her career in the USA.<\/p>\n

HOK<\/a><\/h4>\n

HOK<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0one of the golden standards in the industry, is\u00a0<\/strong>a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm with 23 studios spanning three continents<\/strong>. HOK <\/strong>has always focused on creating\u00a0spaces that respond to the needs of people and the environment. We have been able to send three different participants to work with\u00a0HOK<\/strong> over our long partnership.\u00a0Claudia\u00a0Conde Orozco<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been with\u00a0HOK\u00a0<\/strong>at the\u00a0New York City\u00a0<\/strong>office since 2016,\u00a0<\/strong>and has been able to move up to a full time Architect.\u00a0Claudia<\/strong> was also able to take her experience from the J1 Visa<\/strong> and apply for the O1 Visa<\/strong>, which provided her with the ability to continue working with HOK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Both\u00a0Alexander\u00a0Pearson<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Toby James\u00a0Eccleston<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>are more recent participants that have been able to leverage their time at HOK<\/strong> to gain further employment in the USA<\/strong>\u00a0and the\u00a0UK<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>since their J1 Visa Experience. Alexander\u00a0<\/strong>is now working in\u00a0London<\/strong> at Foster + Partners<\/strong><\/a>, while Toby <\/strong>has been working in at\u00a0OBR Architecture<\/strong><\/a> in\u00a0San Diego<\/strong> for over a year now!<\/p>\n

HMC Architects<\/a><\/h4>\n

HMC Architects<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is an employee owned Architecture firm that focuses on residential, educational, and healthcare buildings primarily in California<\/strong>. Since its inception in 1940,\u00a0HMC Architects<\/strong>\u00a0has focused on\u00a0a sustainable approach to design.<\/p>\n

Just last year, we were able to send both\u00a0Arturo<\/a>\u00a0Rodr\u00edguez L\u00f3pez<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<\/strong>Alberto\u00a0Lozano Duran<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to work with them in their Sacramento<\/strong> and Solana Beach<\/strong> offices, respectively. They are already in talks to look over possible Work Visas,<\/strong> including the O1 Visa<\/strong> that provide them with longer stays. They have both taken this chance to keep their career dreams in the USA<\/strong> alive, and HMC<\/strong> has been there to support their endeavors.<\/p>\n

Workshop APD<\/a><\/h4>\n

“Workshop\/APD is not bound by project type or a singular aesthetic, actively leveraging past experiences to solve a myriad of design challenges. The firm offers an environment that fosters creativity and embraces technological advances in products, design, and materials.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Their\u00a0process, according to all three of the participants, is views\u00a0collaboration as crucial to bringing together the necessary set of expertise to fulfill all design requirements.\u00a0Eva\u00a0Sanchez Moreno<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>Maria de las Mercedes\u00a0Bernal Maurandi, and\u00a0<\/strong>Suana Victoria\u00a0Escudero Guillen<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>were all able to work in New York City<\/strong> with\u00a0Workshop APD<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>During\u00a0Suana’s\u00a0<\/strong>time there she was able to work on projects such as\u00a02420 Amsterdam Hotel,NY, and\u00a0Asbury Park Transit Village, Asbury Park,NJ.\u00a0Their commitment to collaboration is clear in the technique and form in which they teach and show their new hires how they work.<\/p>\n

Studio Tack<\/a><\/h4>\n

Studio Tack<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was founded in 2012<\/strong> in New York City, <\/strong>and they specialize in hospitality\u00a0with an emphasis on collaborative design.<\/p>\n

They highlight and are proud of the\u00a0<\/strong>“…diverse group of people and thinking with backgrounds in architecture, interiors, real estate, construction, branding and creative direction.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Laura\u00a0Cerpa Marrero<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been working with\u00a0Studio Tack<\/strong> for over a nine months now, and has been loving their experience so far.\u00a0Laura<\/strong>\u00a0has been able to assist with her experience from previous work in Spain <\/strong>and studies at\u00a0ETSAM<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>She is looking forward to possibly continuing her work in the USA<\/strong> to continue pursuing her life long dreams.<\/p>\n

The firm\u2019s diverse portfolio includes iconic cultural, residential, hospitality and retail projects for accomplished entrepreneurs, industry leaders, and taste-makers including\u00a0Guggenheim Museum,<\/strong>\u00a0Hudson Yards, Saks Fifth Avenue, Swarovski Crystal<\/strong>, and most recently DHA Capital at 75 Kenmare Street.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marta\u00a0Calvinho<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has been an Architectural Designer with\u00a0Andre Kikoski Architects<\/strong> for just under two years now, and they are looking at other possible Work visas to have her stay for longer since the work relationship has been so cohesive and effective.\u00a0Marta<\/strong> recently mentioned to us that\u00a0Andre<\/strong> has personally been able to work with her on some interesting projects and has learned so much from her first years.<\/p>\n

Handel Architects<\/a><\/h4>\n

“The firm\u2019s emphasis is on understanding the forces that shape the urban environment and how each project, from large-scale urban planning to a single high-impact urban building can become a catalyst for positive urban change.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Handel Architects<\/strong> is award-winning and is known for such projects like\u00a0Union House,\u00a0Madison House, and the\u00a0Millennium Tower Boston.<\/p>\n

Caterina\u00a0de la Portilla Borrego<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was able to work with\u00a0Handel Architects<\/strong> in Boston in 2017, and since then has gone on to create her own academic practice that seeks to help Young Architects learn and improve.\u00a0Caterina<\/strong> was able to assist with thee\u00a0Greenpoint Masterplan <\/strong>in Brooklyn, <\/strong>as well as on the concept and idea team for the tallest residential building in Boston.<\/p>\n

While\u00a0Paula\u00a0Hern\u00e1ndez Mateo<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Jorge\u00a0Valcarcel Cavalle<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>were also able to take their experiences from\u00a0Handel Architects<\/strong> and apply it to their individual careers.\u00a0Paula\u00a0<\/strong>was able to attain work at\u00a0Inglese Architecture<\/strong><\/a> and is currently working there after she got the O1 Visa<\/strong> awarded to her.\u00a0Jorge\u00a0<\/strong>went a little bit of a different route, and is now working on Enterprise Design and Architecture at WeWork<\/strong> in New York City<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

FX Collaborative<\/a><\/h4>\n

FX Collaborative<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has a team made up of diverse\u00a0expertise in architecture, interiors, and planning.<\/p>\n

They state that their firm\u2019s holistic approach “…integrates client aspirations, an urban sensibility, and a celebration of the craft of building.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Their projects range from\u00a0office towers to multi-family residences to cultural facilities to K-12 and higher-education institutions. They even go as far as to design Transportation hubs and urban design that defines how communities interact.<\/p>\n

Alejandro\u00a0Tintore King<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>went from being an Urban Design Intern to a full-time Designer with\u00a0FX Collaborative<\/strong>, and he was able to make these moves in under two years. Thus, you can see the opportunity for learning and growing within the firm that\u00a0FX Collaborative<\/strong> provides their young Professionals.<\/p>\n

Kieran Timberlake<\/a><\/h4>\n

They have\u00a0received hundreds of design citations, including the Firm Award from the American Institute of Architects<\/strong><\/a> in 2008 and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award<\/strong> <\/a>for Architecture from the Smithsonian Institution<\/strong> in 2010.<\/p>\n

Jae Pil\u00a0Yoo<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was able to work with\u00a0Kieran Timberlake<\/strong> in their\u00a0Philadelphia<\/strong> office, which was an incredible opportunity for\u00a0Jae\u00a0<\/strong>to be able to apply his learnings from a Masters <\/strong>in Architecture <\/strong>from the\u00a0University of Toronto<\/strong><\/a>. Now he is working at a firm in Toronto called\u00a0CY Lee Architects<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For example,\u00a0Rodrigo<\/strong> has been working in New York City with\u00a0Cetra Ruddy<\/strong> for over four years now! That is incredible news! Rodrigo<\/strong> was able to stay workin in the USA for four years because he made the transition from the J1 visa<\/strong> to the O1 Visa<\/strong>. He was able to use his network and hard work to show the firm value worth investing in.<\/p>\n

Miguel<\/strong> was able to take his two years working there and his design development experience from the\u00a0Synagogue renovation (Oyster Bay, NY)<\/strong>, and his schematic design experience on the Roman and Williams Renewal<\/strong>.
