June\u00a0<\/strong>was a\u00a0month with incredible top notch projects that caught the eye, but July\u00a0<\/b>gives us a set of 4 different projects that highlight our community’s variety in design skills and perspectives.\u00a0With\u00a04<\/b>\u00a0artists’ work being presented throughout the month on all of our different platforms, we have the final winner with the most likes on Instagram<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

The winner of the $30 Amazon Gift Card<\/strong> for this month, the month of July<\/strong>\u00a0is Santiago del \u00c1guila’s<\/a><\/strong> La Catenaria y EL Arco<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which\u00a0<\/strong>each\u00a0garnered the most likes on Instagram<\/strong> with\u00a040 likes<\/strong> in\u00a0July<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

Santiago del \u00c1guila<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>joins us for his first appearance on the Architect-US Portfolio Challenge <\/strong>with his project called La Catenaria y El<\/strong> Arco<\/strong>, which he submitted to the\u00a0Ins\u00f2lit festival.\u00a0<\/strong>A festival\u00a0which is held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. The main theme of the event is to rise interest and awareness about the rich cultural heritage present around the city, particularly on traditional houses from the historic urban center of Palma and their courtyards.\u00a0For this year (2019) the guideline theme proposed, in the design competition brief was:\u00a0Contradiction.<\/b><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Can Balaguer<\/strong>, designed by the architects Flores & Prats<\/strong>, is organized around a courtyard composed of a succession of stone arches that generate a porticoed ground floor. They are interested in those arches. The arch is born as a structural solution that allows it to span over greater lengths than a lintel could withstand on its own. It was born as a challenge of the human being against the action of gravity, with the aim of joining the banks of a river, of a cliff, or of delimiting, as is the case, a porticoed courtyard.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0second place<\/strong> was Miti Ng’s <\/strong><\/a>Museum of Confucianism<\/strong><\/a>, which garnered over\u00a029 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>The project focuses on the history and beauty of Confucianism.\u00a0<\/span>Confucianism is a system of thought and behavior originating in ancient China. It is described in many different ways, as tradition, a philosophy, a religion, a humanistic or rationalistic religion, a way of governing, or simply a way of life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Miti Ng<\/b> has worked as a <\/span>RIBA Part-II Architectural Assistant at <\/span>P&T Architects and Engineers <\/b>in Hong Kong<\/span>. <\/b>She is originally from Hong Kong, and has been working in Toronto for four months now as an Architectural Technician at CHERIE NG ARCHITECT INC.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

In\u00a0third place<\/strong> was Giovanna G\u00f3mez Salias’s<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Soho Reforma Apartments<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0which garnered over\u00a016 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>She is an alumni of the Architect-US School<\/strong> and is part of the Architect-US Job + J1 Program<\/strong>, which has allowed her to improve her Portfolio and is currently in full swing searching for an opportunity in the USA.<\/p>\n

Soho Reforma Apartments <\/strong>is a project that Giovanna\u00a0<\/strong>was a part of during her time working at MURANO Desarrolladora\u00a0<\/strong>and was in coordination with\u00a0SNB Arquitectos\u00a0<\/strong>who worked on the interior design of the apartments. She assisted on the project development, fa\u00e7ade design, and the coordination of the finishes. The redesign was completed in 2018 and is located in Reforma, Mexico City. As she has over 11 years of experience in the industry, she provides some top notch designs for the community to have a strong sense of a quality design.<\/p>\n

In fourth\u00a0place<\/strong> was\u200b Manuel Mateu Sanchis’<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Play DVRC<\/strong><\/a>, which garnered over 15 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>The project focuses on the challenge of people flowing through an urban space.\u00a0As people leave tall skyscrapers in cities, they are going from a multi-level environment to a simple one to two layer space on the street. This issue of directing people in efficient flows is what Manuel takes on in this project.<\/p>\n

When he finished school, he started his studies in architecture, at the Polytechnic University of Valencia ( ETSAV)<\/strong>, where he discovered a new world of possibilities. During the 2016\/2017 school year, Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>decided to take advantage of the Erasmus scholarship to expand his knowledge and went to Munich, Germany; in one of the best European technical universities (Tu Munchen). In 2019 he graduated as a design professional from IESE Business School – University of Navarra.<\/strong><\/p>\n
