{"id":3301,"date":"2017-01-22T16:25:32","date_gmt":"2017-01-22T15:25:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.architect-us.com\/?p=3301"},"modified":"2017-03-07T16:35:02","modified_gmt":"2017-03-07T15:35:02","slug":"my-new-life-in-l","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/blog\/2017\/01\/my-new-life-in-l\/","title":{"rendered":"My new life in L.A.!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been almost two months since I stated at <a href=\"http:\/\/bittoniarchitects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bittoni Architects<\/a>. I&#8217;m settling in and enjoying the learning curve. <strong>One of the first things I had to get used to was thinking in feet and inches which is surprising difficult!<\/strong>.The practice&#8217;s office is West Los Angeles, a fifteen minute drive from my apartment in <strong>Culver City<\/strong>. Initially my plan was to use Uber to get to work until I settled into my new routine. After a few weeks I would start taking the the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metro.net\/riding\/paid_parking\/expo-line\/\" target=\"_blank\">Expo Train Line<\/a>, which would take about forty five minutes including the walk to and from the station. But so far I haven&#8217;t been able to give up my morning luxury.<\/p>\n<div><strong>Getting around LA is all about travelling by car<\/strong>, that&#8217;s the cliche and although\u00a0it&#8217;s possible to use the metro and the buses it&#8217;s a lot of work! Without the cheap service Uber and Lyft provide it would be really hard for me to explore the city. Which is annoying as I feel reliant on companies who seem pretty cut throat to the people who work for them. <strong>What I really need to do is learn to drive<\/strong>, that&#8217;s next on my to do list. Being a student and then having lived in cities that have great public transport systems I have never felt driving was something I had to do, it was always something to do in the future but not a necessity. Well now it is.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>At lunch on the weekdays I have a few options I can either walk to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yelp.com\/biz\/sawtelle-japantown-los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\">Sawtelle area <\/a>which is about a ten minute walk, to get some <strong>ramen or soba noodles<\/strong>. The short high street at the areas centre is <strong>know for it&#8217;s Japanese food and shops<\/strong>. Where I work is a small office but everyone else drives so sometimes we drive to a nearby strip mall to have Thai, Vietnamese or Mexican food. Sometimes I bring lunch from home but not as much as I should! So exactly the same as when I worked in London.
