December\u00a0<\/strong>was a month full of top notch projects ranging from collective housing to a design for a Surf School to a new KFA HQ, but\u00a0January\u00a0<\/strong>is a new month and a new year with projects ranging from public housing in Paris to Equestrian spaces for practice to centers for environmental education.<\/p>\n

With\u00a08<\/b>\u00a0artists’ work being presented throughout the month on all of our different platforms, we have the final winner with the most likes on Instagram<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

The winner of the $30 Amazon Gift Card<\/strong> for this month, the month of January<\/strong>\u00a0is Mujung Ryan Chiu’s Paving the Palimpsest<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which\u00a0<\/strong>garnered the most likes on Instagram<\/strong> with\u00a038 likes<\/strong> in January<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

Mujung Ryan Chiu <\/strong>joined the\u00a0Architect-US<\/a> Job+J1 Visa Program<\/a><\/strong>, and is now working in Chicago with Wheeler Kearns Architects.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0She created\u00a0Paving the Palimpsest<\/em> and submitted this great work to the Paris Affordable Housing Competition<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Due to the concentration of large populations in large bandeliue structures in the perimeter of Paris, it makes the standard of living lower and commute times much higher. Not only this, but opportunity tends to be concentrated downtown, and thus require making the effort to reach the city center to make a living.\u00a0The competition that Chiu was part of\u00a0“…seeks unique ideas for cities around the world facing housing shortages, and the corresponding exacerbation of social and economic imbalances.”<\/p>\n

In\u00a0second place<\/strong> was Theodor Harasim’s Center for Environmental Research & Education<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0which\u00a0garnered 37 likes <\/strong>on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>After graduating from\u00a0Polytechnic School of Madrid (ETSAM) in 2017,<\/strong>\u00a0he started working with the\u00a0Romanian<\/a> Green Building Council<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as a\u00a0Program Specialist.<\/strong> He has always been interested in contributing to the sustainable transition of new building practices and implementation.\u00a0During his time studying and working with the Council\u00a0<\/strong>he created the Center for Environmental Research & Education,\u00a0<\/strong>which provides a holistic approach to the designing, planning, and creation of a Center for the Sustainability movement in Romania.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0third place<\/strong> was Andr\u00e9s Conejero Conesa’s Auroville Urban Axis, Urban Densification and Architectural Strategies in Southeastern India<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with over 36 likes<\/strong> on Instagram<\/strong>.\u00a0Conesa<\/strong> was in the midst of his\u00a0Master of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid<\/strong>\u00a0when he got the opportunity to travel to India to work with\u00a0Anupama Kundoo Architects<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0The project is Conesa’s\u00a0Master Thesis, but it began as a collaboration with Anupama Kundoo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0fourth place<\/strong> was Diana Ghervas’s Student Hub<\/strong><\/a>, which won over 28 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>Student Hub <\/strong>represents the\u00a0next step for\u00a0her\u00a0transition from the study of a simple program to a much more complex and interesting one. The project was based on the study of how architecture can be not only for individual people but also can contribute to the formation of communities<\/strong>. The project represents the way how the presence and organization of public and private spaces can coexist together and have a major impact on people and social relations between them.\u00a0The\u00a0Student Hub<\/strong> was a final project for her\u00a03-rd year at the University of Architecture and Urbanism ‘Ion Mincu’ in Bucharest<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In fifth place<\/strong> was Syed Azaz Mustafa’s Martesana\u00a0Social Housing<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>which garnered over 24 likes on Instagram,\u00a0received top scores at the\u00a0Politecnico Di Milano<\/strong> in Italy<\/strong>. Syed\u00a0<\/strong>was able to get the chance to work as an entry-level architect at\u00a0Gianluca Milese Architecture Studio<\/strong><\/a> in Milan<\/strong> during his studies where his style was largely influenced.\u00a0The Martesana Project<\/strong> is designed according to the needs of neighbourhood and to integrate better with the community. Different blocks of the projects are designed according to the specific target groups and their needs so the project can be integral part of urban fabric.<\/p>\n

In sixt<\/strong>h place<\/strong> was Nieves Andrea Calvo’s Viaje a BCN <\/strong><\/a>won over\u00a020 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>This new project she published for the Portfolio Challenge called Viaje a BCN<\/strong> was for the\u00a0Mir\u00f3 Foundation<\/strong> and it\u00a0aims to display her sketching and design skills to create a space for the community.\u00a0Nieves<\/strong> writes notes around the sketches that define the axonometric projection of the buildings and how they should be understood by tying the functionality with the structure and materials used.<\/p>\n

In seven<\/strong>th place<\/strong> was Marta Espinosa’s Territorial Planning and Equestrian Facilities<\/strong><\/a>, which garnered 19 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.<\/strong> Her inspiration is drawn from her love for Equestrian<\/strong>. Marta<\/strong> has been a horseback riding instructor for over 3 years, and now she is in Los Angeles<\/strong> taking on her Career goals.\u00a0Marta<\/strong> has been working at Torrence Architects<\/strong><\/a> for just under a year now, and she loves the opportunity to be able to work with some top notch architects in Los Angeles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In eighth\u00a0place<\/strong> was Toshinosuke Matsuki’s Queens Plaza Tower,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0which won over 17 likes<\/strong> on Instagram<\/strong>. Toshi\u00a0<\/strong>previously worked at Pelli Clarke Pelli<\/strong>\u00a0in Tokyo<\/strong>, before moving to the USA<\/strong> to purse his career dreams with Marvel Designs<\/strong>. For the Portfolio Challenge\u00a0Toshi<\/strong> has presented us with\u00a0Queens Plaza Tower, <\/strong>a project that he worked on during his time at Marvel<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in New York City, and which provides us with a glimpse into his mind and how he approaches the design process.<\/p>\n
