Nelligan White Architects PLLC<\/strong> is a New York City firm recognized for pioneering work in energy-conscious and sustainable design. This comprehensive practice of architecture includes new construction, master planning, and the reconstruction and adaptive re-use of historic structures. The firm\u2019s projects range from the design of individual pieces of furniture to institutional projects over 1.2 million square feet. Over the last ten years, Nelligan White<\/strong> has designed and administered construction for projects totaling over a half billion dollars in value. Most of this work has been for educational, institutional and commercial clients.<\/p>\n

Organized as a collaborative environment, all members of the team participate in design, technical work, and construction administration. The collaboration of Principals Bruce G. Nelligan<\/strong> and T. Michael White<\/strong> is based on the shared belief that good architecture should enhance the quality of life for the individuals and communities involved. Integral to this belief is the architect\u2019s responsibility to incorporate environmentally sustainable solutions into every aspect of the design process. Educated as modernists, they believe independent research and an in-depth understanding of both modern and traditional building technologies can beneficially inform the contemporary architectural practice.<\/p>\n

In their practice, Nelligan White<\/strong> has pioneered the use of twenty-first century techniques and materials in rebuilding and restoring important structures throughout New York City that would otherwise be lost. Their work, shaped by decades of research and historic reconstruction, demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of building performance and traditional uses of materials. This process involves careful and efficient responses to programmatic, urbanistic, and technical issues with continual participation from the principals throughout all phases of design and construction.<\/p>\n

Nelligan White<\/strong> was responsible for the historic preservation and adaptive reuse of three Armories for the New York City Department of Design and Construction: the Bedford-Atlantic Armory, the Park Slope Armory, and the Franklin Armory. Among the firm\u2019s numerous awards for architectural excellence, these projects earned them the Lucy G. Moses preservation award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy. Nelligan Whites\u2019 repertoire demonstrates a capacity to produce work on time and on budget for clients while skillfully developing innovative and environmentally conscious solutions to meet challenging problems.<\/p>\n

Macarena Chaves Martinez<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Macarena<\/strong>\u00a0has been working with\u00a0Nelligan White Architects\u00a0<\/strong>for more than 2 months now and has been given the title of Junior Architect Designer. She started her career in Madrid, Spain after graduating from ETSAM<\/strong>\u00a0and then was able to co-found a firm called Karma Design<\/strong>. Quite soon after she got the opportunity to work in New York City with Nelligan White Architects.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maria Diez Revilla<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Maria<\/strong>\u00a0has been working with\u00a0Nelligan White Architects\u00a0<\/strong>for more than 2 months now and has been given the title of Junior Architect Designer. She started her career in Madrid, Spain after graduating from ETSAM<\/strong>\u00a0and then was able to work at Polanco y Diez Arquitectos<\/strong> in Cantabria, Spain for 5 months. After that she got the opportunity to work in New York City with Nelligan White Architects.<\/strong><\/p>\n

PS 50 Manhattan<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

PS 50 Manhattan is a 4-story reinforced concrete building designed by Conklin & Rossant Architects in 1973 and completed in 1975. Multiple envelope deficiencies developed in the aging structure over the course of its 40-year existence, which Nelligan White rectified using a new Ultra-High Performance Concrete rainscreen system and energy efficiency upgrades.<\/p>\n

Empire State Plaza Egg<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

Nelligan White designed a new interior entrance for Empire State Plaza\u2019s Egg. The focus of this project was to assist visitors, in particular, those coming in from the new Albany Capital Center, with wayfinding.\u00a0Nelligan White\u2019s goal for this project was to increase the size of the pre-function event space and improve its acoustical capabilities. Our plan for this space also included improving guest experience through increased visibility and wayfinding. In order to achieve this, we moved the box office into the walkway for easier access and replaced the corner of the lobby with a glass fa\u00e7ade. This kept views to the Egg and connecting Concourse Gallery open.<\/p>\n

Twin Parks West<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n

This 200 unit residential building is being developed as part of New York City\u2019s efforts to create new housing for working New Yorkers, and as well a critical piece of the NextGeneration NYCHA 10-year strategic plan to protect public housing through investment in their underutilized property.\u00a0The 14-story 189,000 square foot building will occupy what is now a NYCHA parking lot, and will house some 350-400 residents. The ground floor commercial space is geared toward community-benefitting uses including day care and a fresh grocer.\u00a0In line with community input the mix and size of apartments is geared towards working families from the neighborhood. Apartments surround a south-facing common courtyard and a photovoltaic array will supplement electric needs.<\/p>\n
