November<\/strong> was a month full of incredible projects, but December\u00a0<\/strong>has been a month full of top notch projects ranging from collective housing to a design for a Surf School to a new KFA HQ.<\/p>\n

With\u00a08<\/b>\u00a0artists’ work being presented throughout the month on all of our different platforms, we have the final winner with the most likes on Instagram<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

The winner of the $30 Amazon Gift Card<\/strong> for this month, the month of December<\/strong> is… Maria O’Connor<\/a>‘s Passive House<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/b>which\u00a0<\/strong>garnered the most likes on Instagram<\/strong> with\u00a050 likes<\/strong> in November<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

Last time Maria\u00a0<\/strong>submitted HOUSING IN BRNO,\u00a0<\/strong>which takes inspiration from the city of Brno in\u00a0the Czech Republic. It\u2019s known for its modernist buildings, like the restored Villa Tugendhat, completed in 1930 by architect Mies van der Rohe.<\/p>\n

Maria <\/strong>is aware of the environment and the necessity for architecture to solve key design issues necessary for a\u00a0sustainable future. She is licensed as a LEED Green Associate, and was interested in pursuing the license due to her support of the preservation and reuse of the heritage buildings which is part of why she was inspired by the beautiful city in the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0second place<\/strong> was Nieves Andrea Calvo’s <\/a>My Roots Are My Inspiration<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0with 36 likes<\/strong> on Instagram<\/strong>. She worked along with A4 Tsawehuca Tea –\u00a0Pablo Claudio Wegman, Virginia de Jorge Huertas y Chenta Tsai.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>They were finalists in the “Inspiration\u00a0Hotel” convocation for OPENGAP.\u00a0<\/strong>Based on the “Tr\u00fcmmenfrauen”, a collective of women whom reconstructed Berlin, we propose Muslim female artists as the nuclei to regenerate the ruins of Baghdad, recreating and creating inspirational hotels for the use of artists and citizens relying on seven archetypal principles that describe contemporary female artists.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0third place<\/strong> was Barbara Pomilio’s<\/strong><\/a> KFAS NEW HQ<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>with over\u00a032 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>The project is a design for the HQs in Kuwait, and it won first place at\u00a0Wettbewerbe Aktuell<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0TOPOTEK 1 Gesellschaft von Landschaftsarchitekten mbH, Berlin<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and its team along with their counterparts (Dan Budik \u00b7 Martin Rein-Cano Mitarbeit: Pavlo Zabotin \u00b7 Viktor Kopieikin \u00b7 Polina Moskalenko \u00b7 Evgeniia Zuhkova \u00b7\u00a0Barbara Pomilio \u00b7 Jo\u00eblle Cocco \u00b7 Giulia Marioni \u00b7 Fachberater: Transsolar, Stuttgart \u00b7 Buro Happold Engineering, Berlin \u00b7 PACE Architecture, Kuwait) were able to complete this award winning project.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0fourth place<\/strong> was Arunachalam lakshmanan’s<\/a> SALARPURIA SATVA<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with 27 likes<\/strong> on Instagram<\/strong>.\u00a0A recent Graduate of Architecture<\/strong> from the University of Melbourne<\/strong><\/a> with 3 yrs of work experience as an architectural assistant and intern for architecture\/interior design firms in India.\u00a0<\/strong>Arunachalam\u00a0<\/strong>views himself as someone that is\u00a0passionate about what he does and strives to push himself to learn new things. If you look through his portfolio of works you will see how he explores architecture in response to culture, community or environment of a project, by imbuing key characteristics into the experience and the character of the design outcome.<\/p>\n

In fifth place<\/strong> was\u00a0Alicia Palacios’<\/strong><\/a> Surf School and Residence<\/b><\/a>\u00a0with 26 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram. <\/strong>She used\u00a0Autocad, Rhinoceros, Photoshop, and Illustrator<\/strong> to create these stunning drawings.\u00a0Palacios <\/strong>views architecture as a\u00a0reflection of our society and our values. In this new project, she is focused on preservation of the nature around the Mediterranean coast, and how we, as humans, interact with our natural environment.<\/p>\n

In sixt<\/strong>h place<\/strong> was Stas Gulkowski’s<\/strong><\/a> Mum’s Club <\/strong><\/a>with\u00a025 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>Last time, he submitted his project called La Struttura Assente<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>which was a parcel of the project located in the central, historical section of Milan, along Via San Marco. The design problem addressed by Mum’s Club<\/strong> was refurbishment of section building located in Via Zumbini 6, Milan. The space functions as a temporary\/emergency home for people that are currently in such need. Under consideration was the complex’s top floor west wing, a space allotted to host single mothers and their children in the age bracket of 0-6 years old, within a so-called ‘ERIN’ project. After a thorough examination of the space, and most importantly interviewing the structure’s visitors and client, we isolated the most important issues and simultaneously covered each in our design proposal.<\/p>\n

In seven<\/strong>th place<\/strong> was Asazak Azvahiransiri’s<\/a> RUSTIC & BLUE THE NEW TAVERN<\/a><\/strong> with 13 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>Asazak\u00a0<\/strong>is an architect based out of Thailand and this is their first submission to the Portfolio Challenge, so we are excited to introduce the community to Asazak’s<\/strong> work. The aim of the project is to create a design for a new tavern in Chiang Mai, Thailand. As he spent a large part of his life in Chiang Mai,\u00a0Asazak<\/strong> sought to provide a design for a hip new space where the youth can hang out and enjoy the roof top views.<\/p>\n

In eighth\u00a0place<\/strong> was Nicolas Waidele’s <\/a><\/strong>La Caba\u00f1a<\/a>\u00a0<\/b>with\u00a011 likes <\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>Nicolas\u00a0<\/strong>studied architecture and design at the\u00a0Illinois Institute of Technology\u00a0<\/b>and has been able to since continue working in the Chicago area. He is currently working at\u00a0NWA Architects.\u00a0<\/strong>La Caba\u00f1a<\/strong>\u00a0is a design that\u00a0Nicolas\u00a0<\/strong>created before joining The Chicago Architecture Center’s (CAC) Helmut Jahn Awards, and provides us with a sense of his design style and how he would design affordable housing.<\/p>\n
