History of HOK<\/a> and Company Culture<\/strong><\/h4>\n

HOK<\/strong>, known as Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum,<\/b>\u00a0is a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm. With 1,600 people collaborating across a network of 23 offices on three continents, HOK designs buildings and spaces that respond to the needs of people and the environment all over the world. HOK\u00a0<\/strong>was founded in 1955 and has always been pushing the envelope to see what can be accomplished in the profession.\u00a0Their designers are rooted in technical excellence, driven by imagination and focused on a solitary goal: to deliver solutions that inspire clients and communities.<\/div>\n

HOK <\/b>has always been on the cutting edge of technology within the architecture and design profession. For example, since\u00a0the early 2000s, HOK<\/strong>\u00a0has been using Building Information Modeling\u00a0(BIM)<\/strong> to streamline the design and construction process.\u00a0<\/sup>Another area that HOK\u00a0<\/strong>has been a leader in since the early 2000s and beyond, is in their dedication to sustainability. For example, architects and designers from\u00a0HOK\u00a0<\/strong>authored one of the industry’s most respected resources on the topic, “The HOK Guidebook to Sustainable Design.”<\/sup><\/p>\n

HOK\u00a0<\/strong>has also been a presence within the academic space and the media landscape through projects such as HOK Voice, publications, and research & reports<\/a> that provide the industry and academic alike with real-world analysis to some of the most difficult challenges faced by humanity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Architect-US<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>Participants<\/b><\/p>\n

Claudia Conde Orozco<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Claudia <\/strong>is always trying to\u00a0make the world a better place through architecture and urbanism, trying to find new ways to design and build our cities in order to provide innovative solutions to the challenges of our time. She believe that as architects we have a social responsibility with the future of our planet and thus, Claudia<\/strong>\u00a0envisions buildings as self-sufficient systems that work in close cycles, helping reduce the energy demand, the C02 emissions and overall, the ecological footprint of our built environment. She has been working on this challenge with\u00a0HOK<\/strong> and even has her\u00a0LEED Certification<\/strong> already.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alexander Pearson<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Alexander<\/strong> got the opportunity to work for\u00a0HOK\u00a0<\/strong>for over three years, part of that time was split between the\u00a0New York City\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0London office.<\/strong> Now he is working in London with Foster+Partners<\/strong><\/a> as an Architect and before that some time with\u00a0Herzog & de Meuron.<\/strong> He has been able to prove his work and his design quality in different countries and in different sized firms, which shows his versatility.<\/p>\n

Toby Eccleston<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Toby Eccleston<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>one of our incredible talents in the JOB+J1 Visa Program, <\/strong>has been able to work at HOK<\/strong><\/a> as a Designer and now he is working at OBR Architecture<\/strong><\/a> in San Diego<\/strong>. He graduated from the University of Liverpool<\/strong><\/a> in 2018, and since then has been able to work abroad for the majority of his career. His passion is to create the kinds of spaces that stick in your mind and provides the community with a safe space for creativity.<\/p>\n

HOK <\/a>Projects<\/h4>\n

LaGuardia Airport New Terminal B<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

LaGuardia Airport\u2019s new Terminal B<\/strong> symbolizes the top-to-bottom transformation of one of the nation\u2019s highest-profile airports.\u00a0The transparent, fluid design of the 850,000-sq.-ft. Arrivals and Departures Hall (headhouse) celebrates movement while conveying a strong civic presence in a city known for its remarkable architecture. In the spirit of grand transportation centers like New York\u2019s celebrated Grand Central Terminal<\/strong>, the new Terminal B ushers in an ambitious new era of mobility and travel. Its verticality and scale echo the grandeur of the city itself.<\/p>\n

Cedars-Sinai Advanced Health Sciences\u00a0Pavilion<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The 11-story Advanced Health Sciences Pavilion (AHSP)<\/strong> breaks down traditional boundaries by combining world-class research, patient care, clinical offices, physician education and training in one building. By uniting researchers and clinicians in the same facility, Cedars-Sinai<\/strong> seeks to bridge the gap between discovery and patient care. With its high-tech sensibility and sleek transparency, the design communicates the synergy of science and healthcare at the heart of this specialized facility.<\/p>\n

Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Anaheim wanted a transportation hub that would become an icon for public transit. It needed to encourage Orange County\u2019s three million residents and 50 million annual visitors to think beyond the automobile and toward a future of smart, sustainable travel.\u00a0The Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC)<\/strong> provides Southern California with a flexible, futuristic terminal for rail, bus and auto passengers in addition to bicyclists and pedestrians. The parabolic design concept of diamond-shaped steel arches infilled with translucent ETFE (ethylene tetrafluoroethylene) creates a grand, light-filled atrium space reminiscent of the world\u2019s great passenger terminals of the early-20th<\/sup>century.<\/p>\n
