Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R)<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>was founded in 1981<\/strong> by\u00a0Ricardo Scofidio\u00a0<\/strong>and Elizabeth Diller.\u00a0Charles Renfro<\/strong> joined in 1997 and became partner in 2004<\/strong>. Benjamin Gilmartin<\/strong> became a partner in 2015<\/strong>.\u00a0Ric\u2019s cross-genre work helped him get a spot on TIME\u2019s “100 Most Influential People”<\/strong> list and he led the design of the High Line<\/strong> \u2013 the adaptive reuse of an obsolete, industrial rail infrastructure into a 1.5 mile-long public park, and contributed to the redesign of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts<\/strong> in New York, and The Broad in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R)<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0focus on cultural and civic projects, DS+R<\/strong>\u2019s work addresses the changing role of institutions and the future of cities.\u00a0 The studio is based in New York and is comprised of over 100 architects, designers, artists and researchers, led by four partners who have joined Ricardo<\/strong> over time\u2014Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Charles Renfro and Benjamin Gilmartin.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The MacArthur Foundation<\/strong> honored DS+R<\/strong>\u2019s work with the ‘genius’ award<\/strong>, stating:<\/p>\n

DS+R\u00a0\u201chave created an alternative form of architectural practice that unites design, performance, and electronic media with cultural and architectural theory and criticism. Their work explores how space functions in our culture and illustrates that architecture, when understood as the physical manifestation of social relationships, is everywhere, not just in buildings.\u201d<\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n

Currently, the studio is designing a number of cultural projects around the world including the New Museum of Transport <\/strong><\/a>in Hungary, the Aboriginal Art and Cultures Center<\/strong><\/a> in Adelaide, and a new collection and research centre for the V&A<\/strong><\/a> in London (currently under construction).<\/p>\n

DS+R joins Arquia | Architect-US Scholarship as a Destination Company<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

This collaboration between Architect-US\u00a0<\/strong>and The Arquia Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0scholarship creates a new opportunity to further connecting the European and American architectural worlds. These opportunities provide architects and designers from Spain or Portugal to challenge\u00a0the parochial views in the US and is a celebration of the\u00a0foundation’s 21st anniversary<\/strong>\u00a0of the Scholarship program. The goal is to support the\u00a0dissemination of cultural, social, professional, and educational projects.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Felipe Sancho Cervera<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0graduated from the\u00a0Masters degree in Architecture ETSAB – Barcelona Architecture School<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>about a year ago, and joined the\u00a0Architect-US JOB + J1 Visa Program<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0via the Arquia | Architect-US Scholarship<\/a>. Felipe<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was chosen partially due to his work on\u00a0Ceramics Innovation and Research Centre above a highway. He\u00a0goes into detail on a possible redesign of how roads and infrastructure are made to be more sustainable and energy efficient.\u00a0Felipe<\/strong> has been working at ESPIN\u00c0S I TARRAS\u00d3, BARCELONA (SPAIN)<\/a><\/strong> since October 2019, but this year he will be joining\u00a0Diller Scofidio+Renfro<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Esha Sikander<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Esha Sikander\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>joined the\u00a0Architect-US JOB + J1 Visa Program<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and was able to get the opportunity to work in the USA with\u00a0DS+R<\/strong> in their\u00a0New York City\u00a0<\/strong>office. Esha\u00a0<\/strong>joined\u00a0DS+R\u00a0<\/strong>in\u00a0March 2018<\/strong> as an Intern, and was able to apply many of her new skills and experience from University to projects that she collaborated on with the team. Now they are back in the\u00a0United Kingdom<\/strong> studying at the Architectural Association of Architecture School.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

David M. Rubenstein Forum<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The David M. Rubenstein Forum<\/strong>\u00a0will be based in the University of Chicago<\/strong>\u00a0campus and will be a space of discourse and intellectual exchange aimed at fostering the outward engagement of visiting scholars, researchers and dignitaries from around the world. The building is made up of a two-story base and a slender, eight-story tower that includes a 185-seat auditorium and spaces for workshops, symposia and lectures.\u00a0The tower is organized as a stack of neighborhoods with meeting and communal spaces offering diverse environments\u2014formal and informal, calm and animated, focused and diffused, scheduled and spontaneous.<\/p>\n

The Broad<\/strong><\/a><\/b><\/p>\n

The Broad<\/strong> is a new contemporary art museum which was founded by philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad<\/strong> on Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles. It opened in September 2015 and the museum offers free general admission.<\/p>\n

\n

Dubbed \u201cthe veil and the vault,\u201d the museum\u2019s design merges the two key programs of the building: public exhibition space and the storage that supports The Broad Art Foundation\u2019s extensive lending activities. Rather than relegate the storage to secondary status, \u201cthe vault\u201d plays a key role in shaping the museum experience from entry to exit.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Broad<\/strong>\u2019s visitors reflected unprecedented diversity for an art museum, attracting a dramatically younger, more ethnically diverse audience than the national average \u2013 exceeding the client\u2019s expectations. The Broad\u2019s visitors reflect the diversity of Southern California and the dynamism of contemporary art.<\/p>\n

15 Hudson Yards<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u00a015 Hudson Yards\u00a0<\/strong>opened in\u00a02019<\/strong>, it is the first residential building to open in Manhattan\u2019s new Hudson Yards neighborhood. Designed with\u00a0LEED Gold standards<\/strong>, and standing at 88-story, the 910-foot-tall tower is located at the southeast corner of Hudson Yards East at 30th\u00a0Street and 11th\u00a0Avenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the past decade, we\u2019ve had the opportunity to shape an urban ensemble comprised of a recreational, cultural and residential project for three diverse clients \u2013 working with the city on the High Line, with The Shed on a new cultural start-up, and now with Related on the first residential tower at Hudson Yards,\u201d said DS+R Partner, Elizabeth Diller.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
