December<\/strong>\u00a0was a month for giving and sharing! The last winner of 2020 was hard fought to the end, and we are excited to highlight the work of a diverse crowd of architects and designers in the\u00a0Portfolio Challenge!<\/strong><\/p>\n

We had projects coming from Romania\u00a0<\/strong>to Dubai!\u00a0<\/strong>Projects that focused on fixing the problems that lead to the fire at Grenfell Towers in London to projects that tried to create spaces that promote rest and work.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0December\u00a0<\/b>the incredible work of\u00a010<\/b>\u00a0architects<\/strong> was highlighted and shown on our platforms, and now we have the final winner with the most likes on Instagram<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

The winner of the $30 Amazon Gift Card<\/strong> for this month was able to get over 271 likes<\/strong> on their project via Instagram.\u00a0The previous high of likes was last month’s winner, Macarena Chaves Martinez<\/a>‘s StartMAD<\/a><\/strong>,which was able to attain 344 likes<\/strong>\u00a0on Instagram<\/strong>!! Although Matteo’s project was unable to beat the highest recorded Instagram likes on a project their work is top-notch and worth looking over.<\/p>\n

Without further ado,\u00a0December’s<\/strong>\u00a0winner for the Portfolio Challenge<\/strong>\u00a0is… Matteo Terazzi<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0with his project called Synergy Hall<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

SynEnergy Hall\u00a0<\/strong>was designed to serve the purpose of a Performing Arts Center that is user-friendly and focused on the lights, coloration, vegetation, and the community engagement aspect. Matteo<\/strong>\u00a0has always been interested in creating spaces that promote collaboration and creates a sense of belonging to something bigger than just yourself. Below you can see how he thinks about the orientation of the sun and the impact that the building will have on the spaces around it.<\/p>\n

Now he is working at\u00a0Studio Razavi Architecture<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and is looking forward to getting the opportunity to work in the USA<\/strong> at some point in the near future.\"\"<\/p>\n

We want to highlight the beautiful work of the other seven incredible artists that were showcased in December!!<\/h4>\n

In\u00a0second place<\/strong> was Victor de Andres Mart\u00edn’s<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0Intercambiador de Cruceros para el Puerto de La Coru\u00f1a<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for the\u00a0Portfolio Challenge <\/strong>with over 223 likes<\/strong> on Instagram. During his studies at Universidad de Francisco Vito,<\/a><\/strong> Victor<\/strong>\u00a0went to the site, saw it, experienced it and enjoyed a lot the whole entire process besides the uncertainty that it involved.\u00a0He is now currently working in Dublin\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0O’Briain Beary Architects <\/a><\/strong>as an Assistant Architect,<\/strong> and has been working there over 3 years now.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0third place\u00a0<\/strong>was Theodor Harasim’s <\/strong><\/a>Center for Environmental Research & Education<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which he created during his time working on the Romanian<\/a> Green Building Council<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as a\u00a0Program Specialist.<\/strong>\u00a0The project was able to win 187\u00a0likes<\/strong> on Instagram. He has always been interested in contributing to the sustainable transition of new building practices and implementation. Theodor<\/strong> provides a holistic approach to the designing, planning, and creation of a Center for the Sustainability movement in Romania.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0fourth place\u00a0<\/strong>was Maria da Silva Menezes Reis’ <\/a>Requalification of Peniche\u2019s Urban Front<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which gained over 178 likes<\/strong> on Instagram. Last time she presented her project called Rural School in Haiti<\/a><\/strong>, which garnered her the winning project in October<\/strong>\u00a0with over 293 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram<\/strong>. The focus of this project was the revamping and updating of an Urban Front that\u00a0Maria<\/strong> visited earlier.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0fifth place\u00a0<\/strong>was Carlos Alcal\u00e1 Santaella Mac\u00edas<\/a>‘<\/strong>\u00a0Mallorca 17 apartments<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which was able to gain over 169 likes<\/strong> on Instagram. The project was created with the goal of creating an apartment complex in Mallorca that provides a new way of viewing architecture in the region.\u00a0At the moment,\u00a0Carlos\u00a0<\/strong>is working as a BIM Architect<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/strong>FL-ARE<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Madrid, Spain. Previously he worked at\u00a0Adam Bresnik Architects<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>as a\u00a0Junior Architect.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0sixth place\u00a0<\/strong>was Zain Al Sharaf Wahbeh<\/strong><\/a>‘s Stacking Dwellings<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which was able to gain 154 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stacking Dwellings\u00a0<\/strong>according to\u00a0Zain <\/strong>was created, “<\/strong>Following the catastrophic Grenfell Tower fire on June 14 2017, an extensive range of technical and public welfare discussions have surfaced throughout the architectural practice. The first phase of the public inquiry entailed a meticulous inspection\u00a0 of\u00a0 images and technical reports that were compiled before and after the incident. These harrowing accounts revealed duplicitous measures to retrofit Grenfell Tower in 2014 with combustible material. This self-serving decision had ultimately cost the lives of more than 70 residents.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In\u00a0seventh place<\/strong>\u00a0was Bianca Dobru’s <\/a><\/strong>Traditionally Inspired Romanian Dwelling<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0which was able to gain over 148 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong>In this project she sought to create a house inspired by her Romanian culture, so you can see lots of wood used and simple and clean angles. Previously, she submitted two different projects, Yichun Zen Resort<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>project and\u00a0Karle town center in Bangalore <\/strong><\/a>project.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0eighth place\u00a0<\/b>was Toshinosuke Matsuki’s<\/strong><\/a> Queens Plaza Tower,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0which was able to win over 123 likes<\/strong> on Instagram. <\/strong>Previously Toshi<\/strong> worked at Pelli Clarke Pelli<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Tokyo<\/strong>, before moving to the USA<\/strong> to purse his career dreams. Now he was able to weather the storm caused by the Pandemic and find a new job with AB Arkitekten.<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Queens Plaza Tower <\/strong>is a project that he worked on, and which provides us with a glimpse into his mind and how he approaches the design process.<\/p>\n

In nint<\/strong>h place\u00a0<\/b>was Andr\u00e9s Conejero Conesa’s<\/a> MNEBHI PALACE COURTYARD<\/a>, <\/b><\/strong>which was able to garner 112 likes<\/b><\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/b><\/strong>Last time\u00a0Andres<\/strong> submitted a project to the Portfolio Challenge, it was the Auroville Urban Axis, Urban Densification and Architectural Strategies in Southeastern India<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>Andres\u00a0<\/strong>got the opportunity to travel to India<\/strong> to work with\u00a0Anupama Kundoo Architects<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>Andres<\/strong> is focused in the intersection between Research, Design and Investment in Architecture, Urbanism and Technology to make palpable the transition from current cities into smart resilient cities.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In tent<\/strong>h place\u00a0<\/b>was V\u00edctor Gerardo Gonz\u00e1lez’s\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>Casa Mayahuel<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which was able to get 110 likes<\/strong> on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>The project in his eyes is a …”<\/span>Reflection on architecture from the landscape of America, in the cultural context of Mexico and more specifically in the agave landscape from which products of universal fame are made who have identified Mexico with these since times rowing.\u00a0Victor\u00a0<\/strong>is now working on his own firm called VGM Arquitectos<\/strong><\/a> in Mexico,\u00a0<\/strong>as well as a part-time Professor at Universidad Panamericana<\/a><\/strong> in Mexico City.<\/strong><\/p>\n
