Sn\u00f8hetta<\/span><\/a><\/strong> (Norwegian pronunciation: [\u02c8sn\u00f8\u02d0\u02cch\u025bt\u0251]) began as a collaborative architectural and landscape workshop, and has remained true to its trans-disciplinary way of thinking since its inception. Founded by Kjetil Tr\u00e6dal Thorsen<\/a><\/strong>, Christoph Kapeller<\/strong> and Craig Edward Dykers\u00a0<\/strong>in 1989.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Their work strives to enhance our sense of surroundings, identity and relationship to others and the physical spaces we inhabit, whether feral or human-made. Museums, products, reindeer observatories, graphics, landscapes and dollhouses get the same care and attention to purpose.<\/p>\n

Sn\u00f8hetta is a place that nobody is from,\u00a0but anyone can go to.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Company Culture<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Sn\u00f8hetta<\/span><\/a><\/strong> has received the World Architecture Award<\/strong><\/a> for the Library in Alexandria<\/strong> and the\u00a0Oslo Opera House.\u00a0<\/strong>In 2010, Kjetil Tr\u00e6dal Thorsen<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0lead, along with other partners, Sn\u00f8hetta<\/span><\/a><\/strong>\u2019s work to be relevant and sustainable, as they were awarded the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture<\/a><\/strong>, for projects of all sizes.<\/p>\n

Their work is defined by their process and design methodology.\u00a0Sn\u00f8hetta’s\u00a0<\/strong>working method practices a simultaneous exploration of traditional handicraft and cutting edge digital technology \u2013 a complementary relationship that drives their creative process.<\/p>\n

When it comes to their design methodology<\/strong> they are focused on the cutting edge technology that allows them to stay at the forefront of design. At the core of the design studio is a state-of-the art modelling workshop equipped with 3D rapid prototyping capabilities and a large, programmable manufacturing robot. Alongside traditional woodworking machines, these tools enable rapid prototyping to become an integral part of the design process. Ideas can move seamlessly between analogue and digital worlds.<\/p>\n

Workshops and tools can only go so far, since people drive the creative process. We use the expression \u201cSingular in the plural\u201d to emphasize the value of the individual and one’s interests in the performance of a group.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Rather than fitting an individual into the group\u2019s philosophy, the individuals themselves define the dynamics of the group. Someone\u2019s unique perspective, background, or personal interest such as music, dance or art can be valuable in informing the creative process. Further, their inclusive design approach means that certain conditions such as gender equality and a diversity of nationalities, ethnicities and ages\u00a0are fundamental to their process.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

After finishing her Masters in Architecture at the University of Toronto<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in 2019, Diana Rosa Franco Camacho,\u00a0<\/strong>was able to work at\u00a0Sn\u00f8hetta<\/strong> under the wings of Elaine Molinar, <\/a><\/strong>Tina Bonacci,<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Nathan McRae.<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>During her\u00a0Job+J1 Visa Program<\/strong> <\/a>Internship experience, she was able to dive into the “Singular in the Plural”<\/strong> mindset and see how top-notch architects collaborate and adhere to tight deadlines, while still providing the best experience for their clients. She has had nothing but great things to say about the experience, and\u00a0Diana <\/strong>cites the experience as a career and life game changer.<\/p>\n
