November<\/strong>\u00a0was a month for being grateful and happy for what we have! This month we have had a diverse crowd of architects and designers submit their work to the\u00a0Portfolio Challenge.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We had projects coming from\u00a0Ecuador<\/strong> to projects in\u00a0Italy<\/strong>! We had a project that took on the challenge of creating a house within the confines of a bridge! We also had a project take on the difficult work of rebuilding a city in Ecuador that had been hit by an earthquake.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0November\u00a0<\/b>the top notch work of\u00a08<\/b>\u00a0architects<\/strong> was highlighted and shown on our platforms, and now we have the final winner with the most likes on Instagram<\/strong>!!<\/p>\n

The winner of the $30 Amazon Gift Card<\/strong> for this month was able to surpass the previous high of 293 likes<\/strong>\u00a0garnered by Maria da Silva Menezes Reis<\/a>‘\u00a0<\/strong>Rural School in Haiti<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong>The winner for the Portfolio Challenge<\/strong> in November<\/strong>\u00a0is…<\/p>\n

Macarena Chaves Martinez<\/a>‘s StartMAD<\/a><\/strong>,which was able to attain 344 likes<\/strong>\u00a0on Instagram<\/strong>!! Which makes Macarena’s\u00a0<\/strong>project the new highest liked Portfolio Challenge<\/strong> post so far!<\/p>\n

A project that she worked on while in\u00a0Madrid<\/strong>, which seeks to provide designs for a northern section of the city known for its financial district and tall towers. This area of\u00a0Madrid<\/strong> has many start-up companies that require a different style of office space that promotes more interconnection and communication.<\/p>\n

Macarena<\/strong> has been able to study at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (ETSAM)<\/strong><\/a> and the Illinois Institute of Technology<\/strong><\/a>. She was able to work at Forma Architecture<\/strong><\/a> in Chicago for 7 months, while studying at Illinois Institute of Technology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We want to highlight the beautiful work of the other seven incredible artists that were showcased in November!!<\/h4>\n

In\u00a0second place<\/strong> was Guillermo Traibel<\/a>‘s<\/strong> Roosevelt Avenue<\/strong><\/a>, which\u00a0<\/strong>was able to attain\u00a0269 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roosevelt Avenue<\/strong> is a detailed project that shows how an apartment building is planned, and it goes from idea to building plan to construction plan to the small details in each apartment.\u00a0In 2017, Guillermo graduated from Universidad ORT Uruguay<\/strong><\/a>, and he received his Bachelors in Architecture<\/strong>. Currently he is working at Humphrey & Partners Architects<\/strong><\/a> in Montevideo<\/strong>, and has been there for around 4 years now.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0third place\u00a0<\/strong>was Diego Cordova<\/a>‘s After 16A Earthquake<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which\u00a0received\u00a0222 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In April 16 of 2016, Ecuador<\/strong> suffered one of the deadliest earthquakes (7.8 Richter)<\/strong> in the last decades. Some towns were completely and partially destroyed, there were almost 700 deceased. For Diego<\/strong> and his community it was imperative that the school of Architecture change its agenda towards responding to the current crisis and its implication. One of them was the residential deficit in the affected cities and the fact that people would invade zones of high earthquake risk for informal housing. It is for this reason that Diego<\/strong> created this wonderful project!<\/p>\n

In\u00a0fourth place\u00a0<\/strong>was Giulia Pierotti<\/a>‘s Arsenale Theatre<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with 220 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

During her studies at\u00a0the Architecture of Interiors, Faculty of Architecture at Politecnico di Milano<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0she created Arsenale Theatre.\u00a0<\/strong>Arsenale Theatre<\/strong> is an existing theatre school and learning centre located within Milano\u2019s urban pattern, hosted in a church of 1270. The aim of the project was to understand the meaning of Contemporary Theatre in order to conceive one starting from the existing perimeter of the building.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0fifth place\u00a0<\/strong>was Arturo R. Del Amo L\u00f3pez<\/a>‘s Plastic Box Pavillion <\/a><\/strong>with 214 likes\u00a0<\/b>on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Arturo R. Del Amo L\u00f3pez<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>has been working in the USA<\/strong> with\u00a0HMC Architects<\/strong><\/a> for almost half a year now in Sacramento, California<\/strong>. Plastic Box\u00a0Pavilion\u00a0<\/strong>is one of his creations from earlier on in his career, while he was honing his skills at Universidad CEU<\/strong><\/a> in Madrid. The idea behind the Pavilion is to provide those that enter into the structure, with a sense of comfort mixed with exploration of new spaces.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0sixth place\u00a0<\/strong>was Javier Martin de la Fuente<\/a><\/strong>‘s IE Hub<\/a><\/strong> with 187 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Javier Martin de la Fuente<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0studied at\u00a0The\u00a0University of Technology Sydney<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong>now,\u00a0Fuentes<\/strong> is chasing his American Dream by working at\u00a0SHoP Architects<\/strong><\/a> in New York City<\/strong> since 2018<\/strong>.\u00a0As you can see, there are various sections that are focused on fitness, knowledge, teamwork, and also leisure<\/strong>. The idea of the\u00a0IE Hub<\/strong> came from seeing his university experience in Sydney, and applying it to this project as a way of preserving his experience there.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0seventh place<\/strong>\u00a0was Tiago Ferreira<\/a>‘s Bridge House<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with 179 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tiago Ferreira <\/a><\/strong>designed\u00a0this project to be situated in Boticas, Portugal. It seeks to create a house that is situated within the form of a bridge that crosses over a forrest. During his studies, he gained skills in his detailing of his designs and the computer languages necessary to create these types of top notch renders.\u00a0Tiago<\/strong> studied for his Masters<\/strong> in Architecture<\/strong> at Universidad de Minho<\/strong><\/a> in Braga, Portugal<\/strong>.\u00a0Previously, in 2019, he was working with Handis SNC<\/strong><\/a> in Casablanca, Morocco.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0eighth place\u00a0<\/b>was Ines Gulbenkian<\/a>‘s La Bodega<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>with 176 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ines Gulbenkian<\/a><\/strong>, views her project, “In a context of rapid social and political transformation, (she) proposed a system of interventions into the spaces of food distribution in the city of Havana, Cuba (las bodegas). The aim<\/strong> of this proposal is twofold: firstly, to create a mechanism of food distribution<\/strong> that can offer an alternative to the foreseeable privatization and deregulation of the current state owned system; second, understanding the food distribution as a social and political process<\/strong>, the project aims at generating new networks of solidarity<\/strong> in the urban fabric of the city.<\/p>\n
