All three are residential projects that seek to create transitional microclimates from the outside to the center of the house. Both Bang and Rizwan view abrupt transitions and a lack of light as two factors that design should try to solve, especially when considering the climate in Dallas. Learn more about the different design techniques that they deploy at their projects.<\/p>\n

F A R + D A N G<\/a><\/strong> is a multidisciplinary design office engaged in the complexities and multiplicities of contemporary life. Their research, their strategy, and their work focuses on transforming intangible ideas into spatial realities and physical form. They are interested in taking a project from its initial conception to its final built form. Their goal is to heighten the immaterial such as ideas, hopes, and space, by way of the material such as site, structure, and enclosure. Together, Bang Dang<\/strong><\/a> and Rizwan Faruqui<\/a><\/strong> work\u00a0on projects of all different types and scales and bring over 30 years of experience in the design field working previously with a variety of firms and a variety of project types.<\/p>\n

Bang Dang<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n

Bang Dang <\/strong><\/a>is a Founding Partner at F A R + D A N<\/a><\/strong> G<\/strong><\/a>, and he co-founded the firm with Rizwan Faruqui<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0back in 2015<\/strong> after they met while working together at Cunningham Architects\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>in\u00a0Dallas. Bang<\/strong> received his Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Texas at Austin<\/strong><\/a> similar to Rizwan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Yet before starting F A R + D A N<\/a><\/strong> G<\/strong><\/a>, Bang\u00a0<\/strong>started a firm called\u00a0BangWorks <\/strong>to give his dream a try, but he ended the firm in\u00a02015<\/strong>\u00a0once he started F A R + D A N<\/a><\/strong> G<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0He is currently also working as an Adjunct Professor<\/strong> at the School of Architecture in The University of Texas at Arlington, <\/strong>and has been one since 2011\u00a0<\/strong>right when he started\u00a0BangWorks.\u00a0<\/strong>His design style has some influence from Japanese culture, yet he takes inspiration from other regions of the world too.<\/p>\n

Rizwan Faruqui<\/a><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Rizwan Faruqui<\/a>, AIA\u00a0<\/strong>is a Founding Partner at F A R + D A N<\/a><\/strong> G<\/a>, <\/strong>and he\u00a0previously worked at the\u00a0Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA)<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0where he was influenced by Dutch design style, along with many other styles.<\/p>\n

More recently, in an interview with\u00a0Dallas Towers<\/strong><\/a>,\u00a0Bang<\/strong> mentioned that, ” They\u00a0met when (they) were both working for Cunningham Architects<\/strong><\/a>, which was a very hands on place in which to learn, discovering how things go together in the architectural process. It turned out that both of (them) enjoyed the construction component.\u201d You can see this joy for the construction phase in the final products they create and the types of projects they take on.<\/p>\n

Dallas is a challenge, it\u2019s a little behind the curve. Whereas in Europe or Japan cities take more risk, Dallas is more cautious as a city.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to Bang<\/strong> and Rizwan <\/strong>their clients have been driving the direction of projects more and more, they are more involved than ever. They have their own “eye” in an architectural context, and they love helping their clients raise the quality of their projects.<\/p>\n

Bang <\/b>states in Dallas Towers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0that, “Today clients are more visually educated than in the past. I see our youth in this climate as an asset. Although we both have experience in a number of project types and have worked for firms, small, medium and large, we feel that we are young and bold enough to push things…I think, that because we are young, we are not satisfied in doing the same thing, any repetition has to be relative to the project and the site.\u201d<\/p>\n

On that note, we wanted to present one of the participants that plans to work with\u00a0Bang\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Rizwan<\/strong> soon! They are very excited to be hosting another incredible young talent at their firm.<\/p>\n

Architect-US Participants<\/h4>\n

Sanae Khalil<\/strong><\/a> is one of our Job+J1 Visa Program<\/strong> participants that was to join the F A R + D A N G<\/strong><\/a> team back at the beginning of the year in March 2020<\/strong>, but due to the Pandemic she is still waiting for confirmation that she can join them. Sanae<\/strong> is originally from Morocco<\/strong>, and is now working and living in Sevilla<\/strong> as a BIM Coordinator<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Before she has worked as an\u00a0Architectural Designer<\/strong> in several large scale projects, participating in all phases Concept Design, Schematic Design and Design Development.\u00a0Involvement and development of international projects in the United States<\/strong>, Dominican Republic<\/strong> and Spain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

B A N G + D A N G Projects<\/h4>\n

When designing residential spaces, the use of space and natural light is crucial, especially since Dallas has a difficult climate at times. It is important to design secure entry portals that make the passage from one environment to another less abrupt. According to\u00a0Rizwan, <\/strong>“…they\u00a0tend to place an emphasis on ceremony, creating moments and spaces where even the act of getting dressed in a well-lit closet area conveys a sense of ritual.”<\/p>\n
