Yesterday<\/strong>, November 11th, 2020<\/strong>, our\u00a0CEO Patricia Garcia<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>connected with Luis Tena<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>for just little over an hour long interview\u00a0as part of Architect-US<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0Interview Series<\/strong>. They went over\u00a0his work at <\/span>wHY Architecture<\/b><\/a>\u00a0in<\/span> Los Angeles<\/b>, to meeting the ex-Mayor of Malibu<\/strong> while surfing and building his new house, to h<\/span>is experience building his own studio in <\/span>Malibu <\/b>after 8 years<\/strong> in Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the beginning of the interview\u00a0Luis<\/strong> begins talking about some of the cool new tech that he has been experimenting with in order to give his clients the best outcomes. For example,\u00a03D printers<\/strong> and using it for design process and for final product can make your process faster and more detailed. While the interview was happening, the 3D print he was working on took 48 hours!! This love for new technology<\/strong> and architecture<\/strong> comes from his\u00a0<\/span>Dad, who is an architect too. At a young age, Luis<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0loved robots and computers, and as he was starting to decide his career direction, he decided to become an architect, instead of an Engineer.<\/span><\/p>\n

Curso Zero<\/strong>, an after-school program that allows High Schoolers to experiment with different careers without having to confirm their full interest. Luis<\/strong> was able to experiment with the role of being an architect, and his excellence in\u00a0<\/span>Math and Geometry made it easy for him and he enjoyed applying these new concepts into a project. His career transformation<\/strong>, in his opinion, is always happening and each project shapes the architect he is and will become.<\/span><\/p>\n

When making the decision to work in the USA<\/strong> and apply for the J1 visa,\u00a0<\/strong>his friend Laura<\/strong> gave him the information and know-how to make the correct decisions when applying to firms. For example,\u00a0Laura<\/strong> used the J1 visa<\/strong> for a scholarship, which limits your ability to come back to the USA and work for over 2 years.\u00a0Luis\u00a0<\/strong>instead, only focused on using the J1 visa<\/strong> for work at wHY Architecture<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and thus he had an easier time with future visas.<\/p>\n
