October<\/strong>\u00a0was spooky and full of surprises! We had a\u00a0\ud83d\udd1d notch show full\u00a0of talent from all over the world this month!! \ud83d\ude4c<\/p>\n

We had projects based in Haiti<\/strong>\u00a0and projects based in York<\/strong>! We had a project that took on the challenge of imagining a new relationship between Earth<\/strong> and\u00a0us.<\/strong> We had a project designed around Equestrian and taking care of horses.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0October\u00a0<\/b>the wonderful\u00a0work\u00a0of\u00a09<\/b>\u00a0architects<\/strong> were showcased, and now we have the final winner with the most likes on Instagram<\/strong>!! This time\u00a0we had\u00a0six projects<\/strong> that were able to cross the 200 likes mark<\/strong>, which is a 50% improvement from last month!! WOW!!! Great work!!\ud83d\udc4d<\/p>\n

The winner of the $30 Amazon Gift Card<\/strong> for this month was able to\u00a0\u00a0surpass the previous high of 262 likes<\/strong> garnered by \u00a0Javier Martin de la Fuente<\/a>‘s Epicentro Natural<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>So\u00a0with no further delay… the winner for the Portfolio Challenge<\/strong> in October<\/strong> is…<\/p>\n

Maria da Silva Menezes Reis<\/a>‘\u00a0<\/strong>Rural School in Haiti<\/strong><\/a>, which was able to attain 293 likes<\/strong> on Instagram!!<\/p>\n

Maria\u00a0<\/strong>created this project\u00a0to create a new school design that benefits the youth of Haiti in a way that takes into account their culture and specific needs according to age.\u00a0Maria<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>emphasized that the project intends to reflect on the relation that architecture establishes with its past, and its utility for those that use it.\u00a0Maria\u00a0<\/b>graduated from Universidad Autonoma de Lisboa<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>in 2016 <\/strong>and has since worked at\u00a0Frederico Valsassina Arquitectos.<\/strong><\/p>\n

We want to shout out the other eight amazing artists that were showcased in October!! \u2764\ufe0f We had a great turnout and this time a record breaking 6 projects with over 200 likes!<\/h4>\n

In\u00a0second place<\/strong> was\u00a0Toby Eccleston<\/a>‘s The Ziggurat<\/a><\/strong>, which\u00a0<\/strong>was able to attain\u00a0283\u00a0likes <\/strong>on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The main focus of this project was to create a space for public use and private use, while also connecting with the river side in a way that is seamless.\u00a0Toby<\/strong> has been able to work at HOK<\/strong><\/a> as a Designer and now he is working at OBR Architecture<\/strong><\/a> in San Diego<\/strong>. He graduated from the University of Liverpool<\/strong><\/a> in 2018, and since then has\u00a0been working abroad.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0third place\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0Syed Azaz Mustafa<\/a>‘s\u00a0Martesana Social Housing<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>which\u00a0received\u00a0261 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Martesana Project <\/strong>is designed according to the needs of neighbourhood and to integrate better with the community. Syed\u00a0<\/strong>was a\u00a0top student\u00a0at the\u00a0Politecnico Di Milano<\/strong><\/a> in Italy<\/strong>, and part of completing his academic experience included creating this wonderful project. Syed\u00a0<\/strong>was able to get the chance to work as an entry-level architect at\u00a0Gianluca Milese Architecture Studio<\/strong><\/a> in Milan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In\u00a0fourth place\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0Alejandro Caicoya<\/a>‘s\u00a0<\/strong>Intramuros<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0226 likes <\/strong>on Instagram.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alejandro\u00a0<\/strong>more recently, was able to work\u00a0at GF55<\/strong><\/a> in New York City<\/strong>. The project\u00a0Intramuros<\/b> was created for an academic project\u00a0at ETSAM<\/a>\u00a0– The Polytechnic\u00a0School of Madrid.\u00a0<\/strong>The goal of the project was to create a public and private space for the community to connect.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0fifth place\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0Henry Richards<\/a>‘\u00a0York Civic Center<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0222 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Henry\u00a0<\/strong>saw it necessary to provide his interpretation of the York Civic Center,<\/strong> and how to improve it. It was during his time studying at University of Nottingham<\/strong><\/a> for his Bachelors<\/strong> in Architecture<\/strong>\u00a0that he created this project.\u00a0Henry<\/strong> views his role as an Architect, as very important and noble, especially when designing incredible spaces for the battle of ideas and proper representation of the will of the people.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0sixth place\u00a0<\/strong>was\u00a0Marta Calvinho<\/a>‘s Paris<\/a><\/strong> with\u00a0202 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marta <\/strong>has taken her experience of traveling around the world, and applied it to this project, as well as her current work at\u00a0Andre Kikoski Architects<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0During her time in Europe<\/strong> she was inspired by the newer building styles she was seeing, yet she wanted to expand on these designs. You can see her rendering of the sloped and weirdly shaped balconies to add some fresh aspects to the residential building in Paris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0seventh place<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0Marta Espinosa<\/a>‘s\u00a0Territorial Planning and Equestrian Facilities<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0202 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Marta<\/strong> got inspired\u00a0for this project by her love for Equestrian<\/strong>. Marta<\/strong> has been a horseback riding instructor for over 3 years, and now she is in Los Angeles<\/strong> taking on her Career goals.\u00a0Since\u00a0working at Torrence Architects<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0in Los Angeles<\/strong> she has been able to gain more experience.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0eighth place\u00a0<\/b>was\u00a0Alvaro Guillen<\/strong><\/a>‘s Cultuhipismo<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a0185 likes\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0aim of the project was to foster a space for discussion and the battle of ideas.\u00a0Alvaro <\/strong>created this project during his studies at\u00a0Universidad Francisco Vitoria (UFV)<\/strong><\/a> in\u00a0Spain<\/strong>. The space he creates consists of a Gym, Space for Debate, Communal Gym, Algae Farm and Park, and even an Electro-Ceremony. Now\u00a0Alvaro Guillen<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>is living in San Francisco<\/strong> while working at\u00a0<\/strong>AMLGM<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In ninth place<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0Yi Jun Aston<\/a>‘s\u00a0<\/strong>Gaia Redemption<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>with\u00a093 likes<\/strong> on\u00a0Instagram.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Aston<\/strong> submitted this project to the\u00a0National Architecture Competition – National Architecture Jamboree Event<\/a>.\u00a0<\/strong>More\u00a0recently he graduated from University of Hartford<\/strong><\/a> for his Masters in Architecture<\/strong>, and has been working at Marin Architects<\/strong><\/a> in New York City<\/strong>\u00a0since 2018.<\/strong><\/p>\n
