Now she is working in New York City with <a href=\"http:\/\/space4architecture.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Space4Architecture<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pierotti<\/strong> states that <strong>\u201cLiving on the Edge\u201d<\/strong> is the almost unconscious choice to live on the edge of <strong>\u201csomething\u201d<\/strong>. This probably was no more than a consequence of the first English settlements that took place along the sea coasts and on the rivers\u2019 banks. Surely this was \u201cdictated\u201d initially by the inhospitality of the outback of the Australian territory and then became a distinctive feature of how to live it; a living faced outwards. The veranda is therefore the architectural element that realizes the unaware choice above and that allows to realize that need that is essentially the Australian spirit of living.<br \/>\nThe need, that is, to project itself outwards. The veranda is therefore a room without walls; the \u201croom of the sun\u201d; the room that allows you to live an open space in front of the house.<\/p>\n<p><b>Do you want to participate in our monthly Portfolio Challenge?<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/architect-us.activehosted.com\/f\/249\"><b>Submit your work here<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cLiving on the Edge\u201d<\/strong> was born from the desire to reinterpret the theme of the Veranda and the living<strong> \u201con the edge\u201d<\/strong> that has characterized and continues to characterize the Australian architecture since the first English settlements.<br \/>\nThe project is <strong>located in Brisbane (Australia) in the Howard Smith Wharves area<\/strong>, the city\u2019s first port dating back to 1939 and now in a state of neglect. For this area was expected, by the plan drawn by the municipal administration, an intervention for the recovery and restoration of the existing buildings and the transformation of this area into an attracting site and catalyzing tourist flows. Because of these characteristics and for its strategic geographical position within the city, the Howard Smith Wharves have become, in this recovery proposal, the essence of \u201cliving on the edge\u201d for an entire city and the buildings that survived over time are transformed in the common veranda of a series of accommodations that embody the characteristics of the veranda: hospitality, threshold, filter. The sheds themselves, stripped of their buffer structure, become the common verandah of temporary housing that has arisen within it.\u00a0A <strong>reconversion of old maritime sheds<\/strong> in hybrid structures between the receptive and the social housing, aimed at welcoming both tourists and \u201ctemporary\u201d inhabitants of the city.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/giulia-pierotti-955034134\/\" target=\"_blank\">Giulia Pierotti<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>used <strong>Autocad, Rhino, Illustrator, and Photoshop<\/strong>\u00a0to create\u00a0this beautiful artwork.<\/p>\n<p><b>What kind of older building would you revamp and why?
