Moving to a different country can be overwhelming, but it is also the opportunity for a new and exciting adventure<\/strong>. In order for you to make this new chapter in your life as enjoyable and stress-free as it can be, you have to make sure that you prepare for a few things. Things that you need to take care of prior to your departure so that everything is settled at home and you are organized and informed as soon as you land in the United States.<\/p>\n

Prior to Home country departure<\/p>\n

1. Travel<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make sure that you start booking your airline tickets with as much time as possible. Traveling to the U.S. isn\u2019t cheap, but there are many different platforms and agencies which can help you find good deals. Also, you want to make sure that you give yourself enough time before your first day of work, that way you have a few days to get settled in.<\/p>\n

2. Housing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Before your departure, it is a good idea for you to get familiarized with the area and for you to start looking at the housing market. Use different platforms such as Zillow, Craigslist and other local search engines in the city get an idea of what\u2019s out there. You should also begin contacting them so that you can get an idea of availability and what each of them require in terms of paperwork, deposit, rent, etc.. It\u2019s important that you secure some accommodation for when you arrive, whether it\u2019s temporary or permanent!! Also, watch out for scams in apartment listings!!<\/p>\n

3. Memberships<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cancel any memberships, subscriptions, or utilities, and any other sorts of bills that you may have at home. You don\u2019t want to be paying for a gym membership that you won\u2019t use \ud83d\ude09.\u00a0 You\u2019d be surprised as to how many people keep paying for subscriptions or memberships which they don\u2019t need.<\/p>\n

4. Driver\u2019s License<\/strong><\/p>\n

Depending on which city you are planning on moving to, it is important that you check the status of your driver\u2019s license and also to check if you need an international driver\u2019s license. The U.S. is big, and so are different cities over there. So if you are moving to a city like Miami or Los Angeles, this is something which you\u2019ll definitely want to take care of.<\/p>\n

5. Copies and Certification<\/strong><\/p>\n

Get hard copies of all important documents (certified if necessary) and also make digital scanned copies that you can save in your computer or external hard drive. \u00a0Remember that you are going to a new country, and also that you will have to go through immigration so its better to have everything and not find yourself missing an important document.<\/p>\n

6. Banking<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let your bank know you\u2019re going to the States, and start looking at overseas at different banking options over there. If you are going to be in the States for a while, its probably a good idea that you open a bank account over there, so start looking at different options and locations so that you can be prepared. Remember that to do a lot of things in the U.S you are required to have an American bank account.<\/p>\n

7. Currency<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prior to your departure it would be a good idea to get some local currency. This is so that you don\u2019t encounter any unexpected problems. You may need some pocket money to pay for a cab from the airport or any other unforeseen small transaction.<\/p>\n
