P<\/span>lease continue reading if you are in this category.<\/p>\n<p>Architect-US has organized all the information you need about The <strong>J1 Visa Extension<\/strong> the following categories!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your J1 Visa extension must be completed and approved before your expiration date on your current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/help\/j1-visa-definitions\" target=\"_blank\">Form DS-2019<\/a>. It is always to be safe than sorry, so make sure you give yourself<strong> at least 10 days before<\/strong> the expiration date on your current J1 Visa.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be eligible for a <strong>J1 visa extension<\/strong> you must currently be in lawful J-1 status and your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/help\/j1-visa-definitions\" target=\"_blank\">Form DS-2019<\/a> must have been issued by the designated sponsor organization you are applying for the extension with. The reason for extensions is to\u00a0grant J1 participants with the extra time they need to finish their original objectives, and never to start a new project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure that your J1 visa sponsor program allows for extensions before starting the process, as some do not allow extensions of any type.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>NECESSARY DOCUMENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are the necessary documents to extend your J1 Visa, this is the bare minimum you need to extend:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You must show financial documentation that proves you have the resources to be able to fund the rest of your stay (i.e. . pay for tuition, fees and living expenses for one year or the remaining length of your studies) If your sponsor organization is funding part of your stay, you may need to prove a lesser amount of money in your bank. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/help\/j1-visa-definitions\" target=\"_blank\">Form DS-2019s<\/a> and IAP-66s issued to you, passport and Form I-94<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proof of J1 Visa Health Insurance\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for the duration of the <strong>J1 Visa Extension<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Documents showing your reasoning for the extension<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A written and signed letter from your advisor or person responsible\u00a0for your J1 experience<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>OR YOU CAN SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING INSTEAD:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A written and signed letter from your Academic institution\u00a0or Organization\u00a0that shows their\u00a0approval for your request for a reduced course load or medical leave of absence based on a physician\u2019s certification. Should include your\u00a0position title and the proposed dates of extension. Any reasons for major changes or\u00a0unexpected reason that caused problems\u00a0leading to the need for an extension.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Please make sure that you DO NOT\u00a0pay the SEVIS fee again! As it is not necessary for your extension request.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As with any bureaucratic process, the time frame can vary. Part of the process can be done\u00a0within a week or so, yet other factors may impact the time it takes to complete the extension process.<\/p>\n<p>Your representative at the sponsoring organization must\u00a0go over the\u00a0documents submitted and decide on your eligibility. Then once\u00a0the <strong>J1 Visa Extension<\/strong> is approved, you will get your new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.architect-us.com\/help\/j1-visa-definitions\" target=\"_blank\">DS-2019<\/a>\u00a0form. This new form will include your\u00a0new expiration date. This date and the new form will be registered in SEVIS.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any request to extend your J1 Visa beyond the initial extension period would only be allowed under exceptional or unusual circumstances. To start such a request for another\u00a0extension, your representative at your sponsoring organization would have to submit\u00a0a written request to U.S. Department of State.
