Step by step

Hello everyone!

I hope you all are doing great. In this post I will speak about my experience in the city during May. Even if I have been here for a couple of months I feel I just landed in this continent. Maybe It is because the city is that big and diverse that is like living in many cities at the same time, it is impossible to get used to this! In addition, what I have heard about the weather is true, it changes a lot. Just when I thought the spring was here, the winter weather came back again! The temperature here is really unpredictable, also I have experienced days with sun, rain and snow at the same time. Get ready for anything if you come during spring.

May started with one of the most awaited events of New York, the Met Gala. Hundreds of people were waiting around the Metropolitan Museum of art and most of the streets were closed.  What surprised me the most, was that the real show was not in the museum but in the streets, while all the people were climbing the buildings, cars and streetlights just to see their favorite celebrity. From my position I couldn’t recognize any of the celebrities, so I ended up doing like everyone, watching the event on the TV.

Another important event during May was memorial’s day. I decided to spend that day on the place of the world with the most memorials and monuments per square meter, Washington DC (they even have a memorial for firefighters dogs). The city is full of museums, you could spend weeks just to visit them all. They are mostly about American history, but there are also Japanese and African culture museums. All of them really interesting. Most of the museums are free, you just have to show your bags and get inside, there is no excuse to not visit them!

During Memorial Day there were many war veterans giving speech and people commemorating the victims of war next to all the monuments. There was also a big parade with bands, cheerleaders and American flags. If you come to New York do not hesitate on visiting Washington DC, it is just a few hours by bus and it is totally worth it.

This is all for May, see you in the next post!
