Houston Holidays: A Winter Wonderland in the Lone Star State

Hello Reader!

The past few weeks have been nothing short of a whirlwind adventure! Writing to you from Houston, where I’ve recently moved, I find myself awestruck by the warmth of its people and its festive charm. As though it could be to move alone in a new country with a different culture and lifestyle I must tell you all, Houston is full of warm and sweet people, the kind who can make one feel at home in no time. And I landed here in the most beautiful time of the year, the city is immersed in Christmas.

To top it off, I arrived during the most magical time of the year—Christmas! Houston truly sparkles during the holidays. From Christmas to New Year’s, the city transforms into a wonderland of holiday décor, with everything from drive-thru winter spectacles to a brilliantly lit zoo, parks, shops, streets, and neighborhoods.

One of the highlights of my festive season was visiting the dazzling Sugar Land Holiday Lights with my newly made friends. Just a 20-minute drive south of Houston, this enchanting event occurs at Constellation Field. Imagine over 3.5 million twinkling lights, a stunning 40-foot illuminated tree, themed displays, light shows, Christmas vendors, mouthwatering food, and, of course, Santa Claus (until Christmas Eve)! This year, they added an extra magical touch with a man-made ice rink right on the field—truly a winter wonderland in Texas.

The holiday spirit doesn’t stop there. Houston’s neighborhoods engage in friendly competitions to create the most breathtaking light displays, turning suburban streets into mesmerizing landscapes. And let’s not forget the New Year’s Eve celebrations at Sugar Land and Downtown, where the city comes alive with live music, interactive art installations, and a jaw-dropping fireworks show at midnight. Whether you’re strolling through glowing streets, indulging in gourmet delights, or dancing the night away, Houston’s festive spirit brings people together like no other.

Annually Houston experiences a couple of snowstorms and a week of extreme cold. And this year the cold week arrived during the last week of January! Now, as I write this, I find myself eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring, ready to embrace another new season in this incredible city.
