Christmas holidays in New York

Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be in New York at Christmas time. For years and years, I always watched Home Alone in New York with my older sister and my younger brother at Christmas Eve. It´s our holiday tradition.

This year I had the pleasure to spend this day at my favourite city with my family. My mom and brother came to the US on December 25th and on the next day, I took them to 3 of my favourite places in town.

My mom always said she wanted to go to Central Park when she came to visit. So it was only fair that this was the first place that she visited. We walked at the park, ate a carrot cake at Pain Quotidienne by the lake and wondered through the amazing paths that you can only find there. It’s such a New Yorker thing to do and I wanted them to have this experience. Afterwards, we went to Guggenheim, because even though the Met is always the obvious museum to go first, this is absolutely one of my favourite museums. My mom and brother were astonished by the amazing architecture and by the number of people that were inside. «Artistic Licence» is the current main exhibition which contains masterpieces from 6 contemporary artists. I didn´t know any of them but fell instantly in love with Carrie Mae Weem’s photographs.

Afterwards, we drove to the Meatpacking District to eat the most amazing Chinese food at Xi’an Famous Foods. On our way, we stopped at Times Square, because they wanted to see the huge illuminated billboards.

Before heading home, we went to Joe’s, one of my favourite coffee shops in town to show my family where I like to meet my friends.

I feel truly blessed to have my family with me during this season. Nothing is better than experiencing the places you love with the ones that hold your heart.

Happy New Year!
