NY to DC

Living and  working in New York is a dream in itself, I could spend each and everyday exploring the city and still keep finding new things to see and do. With that said there are loads of great places nearby which definitely need a visit such as Boston, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. all of which are relatively close; a few hours by Bus or Train.

Washington D.C. was first on my list, I went via Bus early in the morning for this trip as I were pretty excited to experience the road trip as to see more of the US as we passed through various areas on the way, It was also extremely reasonably priced comparison to Flights and even Train fares also allowing me to be picked up and dropped off right in the city centers oppose to venturing to and from airports.

I decided to just go for the day as the journey was easy enough if I wanted to return in the future, I arrived at 10am with my my return set for 7pm so had a full day to get lost in D.C.

As soon as you get dropped off at Union Station you are greeted front and center with the U.S. Capitol, heading here initially is a great place to start as 1) its hard to resist being drawn to its monumentality and 2) it places you right at the beginning of The Mall where you can find the majority of all the Big points of interest.

Throughout the day I visited;

The U.S. Capitol
United States Supreme Court Building
Library of Congress
Lincoln Memorial
Washington Monument
The White House
Department of Housing and Urban Development
National Museum of African American History and Culture by David Adjaye
National Gallery of Art (inc the East Building by I.M. Pei)
Hirshhorn Museum by Gordon Bunshaft/SOM
and many more which may have slipped my mind to list.

This is a great trip and I recommend it one hundred percent if you’re living in New York.

Note: unless you rent a bike or don’t mind a lot of walking (40k+ Steps) then maybe go for two full days to get the most out of the city.
