Exciting Workshop in Guatemala – Get ready for a Volcano Journey!

We are glad to have the chance to collaborate spreading the word about the Architectural Association Guatemala Visiting School and the amazing workshop and Volcano Journey they have organised for this summer!

Once a year, the Architectural Association Guatemala Visiting School organizes a 9-day workshop to dive deeper into a specific topic or issue. In 2018, this will be Volcanoes – particular of Guatemala. The goal is to study new proposals for future projects and initiatives to adapt them into society, develop the economy and increase tourism, infrastructures, or urban and architectural intervention, understand how it shapes culture, way of life and their impact beyond.
You can check out last year’s video at Atitlan, but we warn you: after it, you will not be able to resist this opportunity!

The Guatemala Visiting School will take place from the 2nd to the 11th July 2018 in Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala, traveling to different volcanic areas, visiting different volcanoes to analyze how they impact the Guatemalan society. After analyzing the insights, the objective is to work together to find solutions to the problems the society suffers from that prevent economic and social development.

The AA Visiting School (AAVS) is a global architecture program that challenges the traditional views of the education in architecture. It spans across various locations on 5 continents and its diverse courses provide international students and professionals the opportunity to engage with the world’s urgent challenges in architecture, culture and the environment. The AA Visiting Schools are satellite schools that take place in different cities all around the world in partnership with prestigious local institutions. They focus on local issues and follow the design methodologies developed at the AA. Make sure to download the VS prospectus for more information and watch the video below!

The AA Visiting School is supported by the Universidad Francisco Marroquín that will host the AAVS workshops in the Guatemala City UFM campus and all the students attending will be awarded a certificate by the Architectural Association School of Architecture of London and a certificate by the Universidad Francisco Marroquín. Don’t dare miss out – the deadline for applications is the 15th of May 2018.

Unfortunately, this year we’ll have to skip this adventure because our CEO’s (Patricia Garcia’s) sweet baby boy is still too young to be without her, so she won’t be able to travel. BUT we highly recommend this experience to all of you!
