Key West and the beautiful Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum!

Famous is what Hemingway surprised by the cost said: «Well, you might as well have my last cent.» Today this penny is embedded in the concrete near the pool.

Ready for a new trip? Yes I am.

When my brother came to visit me a few weeks ago, I wanted to show him the beautiful places in Florida.

I got the chance to take a couple of days off  from work and take a trip. Destination? Key West! It’s a long way but believe me if I say it is really worth the trouble!

Walking is the best way to see the island’s intriguing architecture, courtyards and gardens. You can get lost into the Duval Street, one of the most energetic strips of shops, bars and cafes. Live music is everywhere!

We stood for hours looking at the clear water of the ocean. I need to tell you that we were not able to swim for the strong rain but we enjoyed a delicious margarita!

We couldn’t miss the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. It was in this house that Hemingway lived for more than ten years and wrote some of his best works.

If you are fascinated by him, you would probably know that this house, one of the most interesting example of the historical architecture of the island, was one of the first to be fitted with indoor plumbing and the first to have an upstairs bathroom with running water, fed from a rain cistern on the roof. A beautiful garden surround the house, the depandance and the swimming pool (the first in the island on the late ’30s). It was Pauline Hemingway, Ernest’s wife, to build the swimming pool for him while he was away for the Spanish Civil War.

Famous is what Hemingway surprised by the cost said: «Well, you might as well have my last cent.»

Today this penny is embedded in the concrete near the pool.

Entering into the Hemingway’s world it was an incredible experience!
