Thanksgiving in Texas!

We generally think of ranches and cowboy boots when we think in Texas, well we haven’t seen much of the deep Texas Austin and San Antonio, but it’s a really nice trip to put on your list.

Finally a 4 days weekend… just enough time to see most of Austin and San Antonio.

We generally think of ranches and cowboy boots when we think in Texas, well we haven’t seen much of the deep Texas in these two nice cities, but it’s a really nice trip to put on your list.

First stop in San Antonio

It’s hard to miss the river walk in the center of the city, very touristic but such a nice place where to hang out and have dinner with a view on the river.

The Alamo is an historic landmark not to miss to know more about the history of the city.

And my favorite place was this neighborhood named Pearl district, a brand new looking area with a very nice industrial architectural style. It’s like a second center with lots of places to eat and drink, walk along the river… We were actually only trying to find a brewery and found out about this very hip neighborhood full of breweries, all looking so nice. I love this kind of surprise in a trip when you don’t have much expectations and found out about a really nice place.

Second part of the trip, Austin

Austin is a bigger city, it’s where the Texas State Capitol is located, really nice building.

The university is pretty central and have a few nice buildings to see. As most of the universities in the US it’s like a city in the city.

Next to it there is the LBJ library designed by Gordon Bunshaft from SOM architects. From the images I saw online I wasn’t really excited about the architecture of the building, but the experience is totally different when you are actually standing in front of it, after a few minutes walking around it I was actually loving this building and  feeling impressed by this monolith.

Again, one of the main thing to do in Austin is this nice walk along the river crossing the city. The river is such a feature that makes Austin a really great city to live in.

And to end

I got some good trip tips from my roommates’ friends before leaving from San Francisco, and they recommend me to check out two beautiful natural areas. The last day we rent a car to drive away from the city and visit Hamilton pool preserve and Jacob’s well, about 45 min away from Austin. As you can see on the picture it’s really worth it and a really nice way to end the trip.
