New England Road Trip

The only disappointing part of our trip was not seeing a moose!!!

Hi from Hoboken!

The summer is finally over here around New York and I’m now getting to experience my first ‘fall’. It’s amazing to see the seasons distinctly change here as everyone jokes we only have one season in Scotland- grey and rainy!

I had heard about the foliage further north and how all the trees start to turn amazing autumnal shades in the fall so when my mum recently came to visit we decided to go on a long weekend adventure through New England to see it first hand! We both love the outdoors and have done a lot of hiking together back at home so we chose the White Mountains as our destination so we could see the foliage while taking in some American hiking. It did not disappoint.

Day 1- We drove from Hoboken up to Thornton, New Hampshire, to the cabin we had booked to stay in. It was surrounded by forrest, backed onto a lovely river and had a great fire pit- felt so remote!

Day 2- We hiked to a few peaks near our cabin- there were so many fantastic viewpoints and the sky was crisp blue!

Day 3- We went on another beautiful hike, this time a river-side trail through a forrest that passed many waterfalls until reaching The Lonesome Lake where the AMC have one of their mountain huts. We enjoyed a cup of tea here before descending via a different route. The colours in the forrest were amazing.

Day 4- We explored the town of Lincoln before setting off back on the road to Hoboken through many quintessential New England towns and landscapes.

The only disappointing part of our trip was not seeing a moose!!! Fingers crossed for next time.
