Blade-Runner-Bradbury Building

Famous filming locations

I was then thinking how many places I visited just over the last couple of months that have featured in films and it’s quite a lot.

I’m a big fan of Blade Runner so when I re-watched it in anticipation of the sequel coming out next month I remembered how much of was filmed in recognisable locations in LA.

The Bradbury building is probably the most famous location. The building is known for its immense skylight atrium, wrought-iron cage lifts and Italian marble staircase. The building is the set of the character J. F. Sebastian’s apartment and the famous climatic rooftop scene. The building is also used in loads of other films like Chinatown and The Artist. To get to go inside you have to be lucky and go on a weekday, when the building is used by the current tenants or take an DTLA architectural tour that includes it as part of the itinerary.

I also watched re-watched Terminator 2 the other day which was interesting now that I can recognise some of the filming locations as places in Los Angeles. I was then thinking how many places I visited just over the last couple of months that have featured in films and it’s quite a lot. Point Dume beach is the night beach scene in The Big Lebowski, Griffith Observatory in La La Land. And last but not least the LA river was the setting for the car race scene in Grease, one of my favorite films growing up.
