Going to the beach

Beach season is about to come to an end, so take advantage of the last opportunities to sunbathe and relax.

Summer in NY use to be extremely hot, and it becomes difficult to deal with it without a pool to take a bath. Altough this summer is not being as hot as it was supposed to be, it’s still a good plan for the weekend to go to the shore and enjoy a beach day.

Living in New Jersey I wanted to explore the famous Jersey Shore, which I had been told that had beautiful and clean beaches. The one that I chose, Point Pleasant, is a popular one among families and young people, and you could get there by train from Hoboken. The advantages are the cleaness of the water, the big extension of the sand (you could have your space) and the nice broadwalk with all kinds of food, drink and amusement. The disvantages are the time it takes to get there (almost 3 hours!) and the price: around $30 if you go by train plus $10 to access to the beach.

Next time I decided to give a try to New York beaches, starting with Coney Island. This one is reachable by underground from Manhattan in less than 2 hours, so initially it makes a big difference compared to Jersey Shore. Furthermore, the entrance is free, it’s clean enough and you also have a nice broadwalk and a some fun parks.

Following the recommendations of some locals, I went to visit a third beach also within New York, that is called Rockaway beach. As with the previous one, it takes less than two hours to get there from Manhattan, altough in this case you have to transfer. The surrondings are quieter than the other beaches, so this will be a good spot if you just want to relax on the beach, and there is no entrance fee either.

Beach season is about to come to an end, so take advantage of the last opportunities to sunbathe and relax.
