First month in New York

Hello everyone!

I made it! I am finally living in New York City. This is my first post talking about my experience here, I hope you enjoy it and it will help you with your own experience. Let’s start talking about my journey. It actually started a few months before coming to the US, as I had to go to the consulate and prepare all my paperwork, do the interviews that were necessary and organize a (really) big luggage.

After all of that, I arrived in America at the end of February when the weather was still freezing and the days were short and dark. But, that was not an excuse to not enjoy the city and visit the most emblematic and famous places. So I took my shoes, some warm clothes (gloves and a cap are essential) and I started to walk. If you come one day, don’t forget to bring good shoes!

However, I was unaware of the scale and the dimensions of the endless streets. I was contemplating the skyscrapers on the distance but they were never getting any closer. One of the peculiarities of this city is that makes you feel microscopic, like an ant in a jungle. Nevertheless, that’s also one of its greatest charms.

After visiting several nice places, making a lot of calls (to get my SSN) and basically trying to settle in this new continent, I started to work in Diller Scofidio and Renfro. I was lucky as my first day was the first day of on-site activities back into the office after two years of remote work, so it felt like the first day for almost everyone. It was great to get to know the partners and the team and learn their way of work not only from a screen but hand to hand.

During this first month, I got the chance to visit some museums, as the city was starting to re-open again after COVID. I visited the Guggenheim and the Natural History Museum and I had a feeling like I have been there before. Maybe because they were in many movies and series. Also, many people told me to go to a NBA basket match, so I did! It was a really fun experience, the Knicks and the Chicago Bulls were playing and It felt more like a party than a really serious game. Totally recommended!

That’s all for this month, but If you are interested in my experience, go and check out my next post!

See you there!
