Discovering Manhattan

I got to see many paintings I knew but never got the opportunity to see in person, so it was very special for me to find them there unexpectedly.

Hi everyone!

I can’t believe it has been a month since I arrived to the USA! Although everything feels still very new, little by little I am getting used to my life here. Last Saturday I went to Manhattan with one of my colleagues and we visited the MoMA and the Whitney museums. I had visited neither of them and I was very excited about it.

The MoMA had a bit of everything and it was very interesting to see the different styles right next to each other. For example, you could see a Pollock painting right after the Star night by Van Gogh. I also got to see many paintings I knew but never got the opportunity to see in person, so it was very special for me to find them there unexpectedly.

The Whitney Museum on the other hand (a Renzo Piano building which has been opened very recently) had a more contemporary type of art, most of it from North American artists. To understand the art pieces one must definetely read first about the different lines of reflection of the artists and have an opened mind. This is not a canonical museum but it leaves one thinking about the hidden meanings of the pieces exposed there. After visiting both museums, we went to a Spanish bar that my colleague loves called Las Ramblas and had croquetas, aceitunas, patatas bravas and other typical spanish tapas. What a wonderful day!
